| Question about white rice. I know white rice and chicken is good for our dogs when they have an upset stomach but what about feeding white rice everyday? Is there too much of anything in white rice that would be harmful to feed with each meal? My crew loves a little white rice, carrots and green beans over their food...I feed Innova red meat recipe. The protein in the Innova is 24% fat is 14% and carbohydrates are 41.44%. If I use the white rice on top of this am I doubling up on anything too much? Oh, they get about a rounded tablespoon of rice twice a day over their food...usually it's cooked in chicken broth or chicken broth and water. |

| The main thing is that you are giving less than 10% homecooked if you aren't supplementing. As long as you are under 10%, it should be fine. It really wouldn't be any different than somebody mixing chicken with their pup's kibble everyday. I don't know of anything in rice that would make it unsafe for long-term feeding.

| Thank you...I just wanted to make sure I wasn't giving too many carbs. My Megan and Maddie are little chunky butts and could stand to lose a cheek or two already ...didn't want to make them any worse! luvfla...yes, you can feed brown rice...sometimes I mix the two but I always have white rice on hand so that's what I use the most of. |

| Well, they aren't actully fat but they are healthy...I just tease them about being chunky butts. I think it's the Biewer coat...it makes them look sooo big when they really aren't. I feed each one of them about 1/3 of a cup of dry food for breakfast and again for supper with the rice and veggies over it and they each have dry food available at all times in their kennels but they only go in there at bedtime and they don't eat too much during the night. So, I don't think they are eating too much and we don't give too many snacks throughout the day...most of the time it's a fruit or veggie snack...they love those. The vet says they feel fine so it has to be the hair. |
