Question about white rice. I know white rice and chicken is good for our dogs when they have an upset stomach but what about feeding white rice everyday? Is there too much of anything in white rice that would be harmful to feed with each meal? My crew loves a little white rice, carrots and green beans over their food...I feed Innova red meat recipe. The protein in the Innova is 24% fat is 14% and carbohydrates are 41.44%. If I use the white rice on top of this am I doubling up on anything too much? Oh, they get about a rounded tablespoon of rice twice a day over their food...usually it's cooked in chicken broth or chicken broth and water. |
Can we used brown rice? It has more fiber. |
The main thing is that you are giving less than 10% homecooked if you aren't supplementing. As long as you are under 10%, it should be fine. It really wouldn't be any different than somebody mixing chicken with their pup's kibble everyday. I don't know of anything in rice that would make it unsafe for long-term feeding. |
Thank you...I just wanted to make sure I wasn't giving too many carbs. My Megan and Maddie are little chunky butts and could stand to lose a cheek or two already ;) ...didn't want to make them any worse! luvfla...yes, you can feed brown rice...sometimes I mix the two but I always have white rice on hand so that's what I use the most of. |
