| major skin problem =( My yorkie has a terrible skin problem! She has very dry, itchy skin. She has had this problem for almost a year. Her skin has always been a little dry but now it is out of control. About a year ago, I woke up in the morning and bella had itched her neck so bad that she was bleeding with huge hot spots. And she was biting her whole back and clumps of hair were gone. I took her to the vet and they said she had dermatitis. So the vet gave me ivermectin to give to her. It didnt work. I took her to another vet and he said she had sobrreah dermatitis. He gave me medicated shampoo for her. That didnt work either. I have tried other medicated shampoos, oatmeal shampoos, changed her diet, but nothing is working. I give her a bath and within 10 minutes, she stinks and is itching. Her hair gets really oily and she has big scabs on her neck and back. I keep clothes on her all the time so she cant scratch her skin as bad. I dont know what to do anymore. Has this happenend to anyone or can anyone give me advice? Please help! |

| Welcome to YT! I am sorry that you are having such problems with her skin. That can be tricky to figure out. Can she have fleas? What shampoo are you using??? Yorkies have hair instead of fur so they need shampoos that will not dry out their skin. What are you feeding her?? Corn, wheat and soy can cause severe allergies. I would definitely avoid those in whatever you are feeding her. I would do whatever you have to do to get her skin problems under control. Poor baby! She must be miserable. |

| oh how horrible. May i suggest a nutritionist. I used her for Layla because she has pancreatitis. However, I was reading her "testimonials" yesterday and realized JUST how many pets she has helped with skin issues- i had no idea! here is her site askariel.com and here are the testimonials (Layla's should be up any day now!) Canine Liver Disease, Kidney Disease In Dogs Her name is Susan Davis and I just can't say enough great things about her! On her home page- if you scroll down and look to the left it says - book a consult- be sure to be the $78 dollar one if you do- the more expensive one is with a vet- and it is all done by phone- the BEST 78 dollars i ever spent- she saved Layla. Also take a look at her products: Dog Itching--Dog Skin & Coat Problems but if she can know about your specific problem and what your pup eats- she can be a HUGE help good luck- it is SO hard to watch them suffer! |

| If testing reveals nothing medically wrong with your baby, you might want to try a good shampoo containing oatmeal. Also, I have found great results with rubbing Lulu down with a small (about 1/4 teaspoon) amount of coconut oil. You don't want to use too much, just enough to melt into their skin. I also put about 1/4 teaspoon in her food or sometimes she licks it right off the spoon. I haven't noticed her scratching since using it. I have been using it for years for dry itchy skin (eczema actually) as well as cooking/ baking with it with great benefits and results and upon researching it further, found out it is good for our animals as well. Good luck, hope your baby and you get good results soon.

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Well, this does sound like seborrhea if she is stinky, has sores, and is oily/flaky. She could also have concurrent yeast. No matter what, I'd have a fungal culture done asap. If it is seborrhea, I'd look at diet right away (what are you feeding?), con't w/ the shampoo...and...if it really can't be managed, then I'd consider steroids. When quality of life is this bad, steroids could be very good. You may also want to give fatty acids. I like Ark Naturals Royal Coat - which can be found at Whole Foods and online. Colloidal Silver, like MesoSilver, has also been known to get rid of seborrhea. I would also ask the vet to rule out pyoderma and a staph infection at this point.

| I have read about some amazing products that you might like to try called DERMAGIC. Apparently the lady who created them is a scientist that used to own a yorkie that had such bad skin problems that her vet advised her to have it put down. This made her determined to find her own cure and she healed her dog totally with these products. I have contacted her myself as Poppy is a bit scaley on her back and she is going to send me some trial sizes.

YT 3000 Club Member | Chester has had very itchy skin and has allergies to the enviroment, I use laundry soap with no perfumes or dyes same with the dryer sheets since he sleeps with me. I give chester temiral p which is prednisone and benadyrl in it, if that helps it is not food but the enviroment. Salmon oil in his wet food help as well, what kind of shampoo are you using, have you done any research on natural oils, I use a organic dog salve on chester called merry hempsters and it has helped |
