| allergic yorkie? I have a precious yorkie who seems to have allergies. He itches constantly. Buster is 5 years old now. 6 months ago his vet said he needed to lose a bit of weight so I added green beans to less of his dry food. After a month, he began itching terribly. So I changed the veggies to carrots. At first all was well, then the itching began again. He was eating the wellness reduced calorie food. I switched to the wellness sweet potato and whitefish food --no more carrots. Same thing--at first he is much improved...then the itching returns. Could he be allergic to something outdoors? Any ideas on alternatives for food? Or will he take benadryl forever? TIA, martha and buster |

I would tell you to call your vet. Believe it or not, some dogs are allergic to veggies, and that could be causing the problem.

| I have a 1 1/2 year old baby girl named bella. She is itching constantly! This has been going on for a year now! She had dry skin at first and the vet said it was just because of the dry weather. Then when she was about 7 months, she started itching so bad. One morning I woke up and she had itched her skin so bad and pulled her hair out on her back and neck. She had huge hot spots. I got some medicated shampoo and it didnt work. Then I took her to the vet and the gave me ivermectin to give her. That didnt work. Then I took her to another vet and the said she had sobrreah dermititusand he prescribed her another medicated shampoo, once again, that didnt work. It is getting so bad and she smells terrible. I dont know what to do and I cant imagine the pain shes in. Does anybody have any suggestions for me??? I also keep her in clothes all the time so she cant scratch her skin as bad. PLEASE HELP! |

| Baxter has been itching that also. The vet thinks it is food allergies. We have been excluding different foods from his diet (wheat, dairy) to find out what the trigger is. In the mean time the vet gave him steroids, which helped a lot. This is worst in the winter (we live in Buffalo), so I think the dry air doesn't help. I hope your baby feels better. |

| You might want to try a limited ingredient dog food like California Naturals, for example. I think it has one protein source and one carb source and makes the process of elimination easier. It's helped a lot with my dogs' tummy issues and it might help with the itching.

YT 3000 Club Member | Chester has allergies to the enviroment, the vet has given me temaril p prednisone and benadyrl and it that helps then it is the enviroment. I use grizzly salmon oil on his wet food that has helped. I use soap all free and clear, and the same with dryer sheets, sonce he sleeps with me. I will sometimes just rinse him off in the tub. Ask the vet about the temaril p and if it helps it is probably the enviroment. I use it whenever he needs it not all the time, anything with prednisone makes them urinate alot. |

YT 3000 Club Member | Have youy tried some salmon oil or something like that, it has helped chester, are her allergies food or the enviroment. I use laundry soap and dryer sheet with no perfumes or dyes, if she sleeps with you. If steriods help the she is allergic to the enviroment and not to the food, brush her to keep the oil glands working. I have used biogroom fluffy puppy tearless conditioning shampoo on chester and that has worked well. Look up apple cider vinegar mixed with water and that helped chester depending on how bad it is, just pour in on them, their was article in dog fancy magazine about it. |
