| Symptoms of heat cycle? My baby girl is PMSing. I haven't seen any blood yet, but she has snapped a couple of times at us and is becoming a little edgy. The last two nights, she has barked for an hour at a time. She has been sleeping fine before those two nights. I was going to have her spayed on Tuesday, but I am still dealing with the fear of losing my first one to being neutered (severe allergic reaction...died that day). So, I'm going to get her spayed, but wanted to talk to the vet a little more. She is 8 months old. What should I do to comfort her? I realize to keep her away from males (the only one she plays with has been neutered and lives in another house). I warm up her blanket before I go to bed in the dryer. She is usually a ball of fire but I have noticed her energy level depleting a little. I will get her spayed...you don't have to convince me of that...my husband and I are a little nervous from our previous experience (took me 12 years to talk him in to getting a dog). Just want to make her more comfortable. |

| Poor baby!! I found this website for you, hope it will help Dog Heat Symptoms I have a boy so I have never delt with anything like that, but I am also a women and know what she is going tru!! I am sorry I have no great advice for you, I would just get some of those pads for dogs just in case she starts bleeding, I think you can get them at petsmart?? You can also "google" some info as well, you would be surprised what you find on there ...I think you should also wait a couple weeks after she has her 1st heat before spaying her...I believe "elliemay" is reallllly good about that kind of info you should find her on here hehe... I did the best I could....Good luck

| I am sooooo sorry about the loss of your little guy. That is fear of mine that has kept me from getting my little girl spayed. Maddie has been through 2 heats and I will soon be getting her spayed,i fI can overcome these fears Maddie seems to find it hard to get comfortable just before her heat, she paces around, lies down, only to get up and move somewhere else. I have not noticed a change in mood or temperment with her before. She seems to loose her appetite a little for a few days as well. I really don't have any suggestions for ya. sorry, but I think the heated blankets are a great idea. I wonder if a heating pad on the lowest setting would work, then she could lay for as long or little as she needed. Good Luck. Oh, I have found the little panties at Build-a-Bear work great. THey already have little holes for their tails. |

A dog can be spayed while in heat but there is more blood involved and it is just safer to wait. I would wait at least 6 week safter personally so that hopefully diestrus (going out of heat) is done and the humans go back to "normal" (anestrus).

| thanks Thanks...this is a lot of good information. I'm going to have my girl tested before I spay her (I will wait at least 6 weeks after her heat cycle). They will test to make sure her liver and kidneys are working before they do the operation. I think it is important to do it. I'm just going to be a lot more informed this time around! Thanks again. |
