| Flea and Tick control Does anyone have a suggestion for flea and tick control. Most of it washes off and I am somewhat worried about using the stuff with all of the chemicals in it. Thanks in advance. |

| I have Fiona on Frontline Plus. We battled with Fleas with her for over a month, due to the fact that she was too little, and I didn't start her on any preventative. Please, whatever you do, do not get any HARTZ flea/tick products, they have killed animals. You can always call your vet, and ask what they recommend!

| Thank you Dara311 and ilovelilly. I have been wondering about some of the natural ones also. The major concearn for me is for the ticks. In the summer we go to the lake on the weekends and there are lots of ticks there. I get concearned about possible cancers later from exposure to the chemicals or other side effects. Whatever I do I don't want to inadvertantly hurt my babies. They mean the world to me. |

| Ticks are honestly a bigger risk than the chemicals when you take into account all the terrible diseases that they can carry to both dogs AND humans-- I wouldn't risk lyme disease or Ehrlichiosis if you're in a tick-heavy area, even if it means exposing the furkids to some chemicals. Frontline does a pretty good job with ticks, and I'd definitely recommend that over the tick collars out there-- the collars can be really nasty and sometimes cause severe side effects in dogs. Some of the other flea+tick formulas out there can be dangerous to animals, especially some of the over the counter things. You have to be especially careful if you have cats in your household as well as dogs-- some of the meds out there that are labeled for dogs can be deadly to a cat if they even snuggle up against the dog. I'm so glad that I'm living in a little tick-free pocket now. Fleas are a lot easier to protect against using less potent meds, but ticks are nasty things. >.<

| Flea Preventative I used Comfortis Flea pill in both my Yorkies for months. I loved it, the convenience, no mess, no fuss. But my smaller one began having some strange symptoms. We were at a loss to figure out what was wrong with him. It appeared he had pain but could tell if it was skeletal or what. So x-rays were done - nothing. Blood work - nothing but a bile acids test was done and his were bordering on the high side. I had an ultrasound done and that showed symptoms of IBD. I put him on a strict diet and medication and all was going well until I gave him his last Comfortis pill in mid December. Within two hours, the shortest duration that symptoms had shown up ever, he was in agony. The Comfortis gave him severe stomach pains and this would go on for hours. I had already given the pill, how do I get it back out of him? So I vowed to keep an eye on things and when he was due for another spell, minus the Comfortis pill, I would know. Sure enough, that was the last pain episode he had so he will never get another, neither of my boys will ever have Comfortis again. I work in a vet office and since my discovery, there have been four other cases, three of them Yorkies or Yorkie mixes, who also have adverse reaction to Comfortis just in our office alone. Through our drug rep. I have heard that the company is pulling its Comfortis for smaller breeds. I just wanted to alert people and to find out how many other people with Yorkies or small dogs are having problems. |

| Thank you for the info on the natural website. I ordered the cedar oil spray for the dogs and understand it is also good for mosqitos. I can even use it on myself when sitting outside. Yea!! I will post back after our first trip to the lake and let everyone know how well it worked. |
