| ![]() Hi Everyone! I have just switched Moose (9 months old and 4.5lbs) to Evo canned food, 95% turkey and chicken. I know that Evo is a great food (6 stars on DFA) and that many of you use it...I was curious as to whether you have better luck with the dry kibble or the canned wet food? Moose LOVED the new canned food, but he's only been eating the food for two days and his diarheaa is horrible ![]() The vet said when making the switch to Evo not to mix in his old food, since it is so drastically different, just to make the switch and go for it. Has anyone experienced this when switching to wet canned Evo? Should I try the dry Evo kibble instead? Thanks in advance for your help! ![]() |

| ![]() Poor little guy ![]() Do you only want him to have canned food ? If you don't mind kibble maybe you can start with Evo kibble and mix it a bit with his old ( dry? ) food then when he is switched over and doing well on the Evo dry kibble you can start adding a bit of Evo canned to it , and eventually switch over to all canned if that is what you want to do. I feed wellness core kibble and I also use the Wellness grain free canned. I take a small amount of their daily portions of kibble and mix it with a small amount of canned food for their breakfast meal...then a bit later I put the rest of the kibble down for them to have throughout the day ( I free feed ) I like feeding both . I wouldn't like just canned unless mine couldn't eat kibble for some reason, but that is just my preference.

| ![]() I was feeding Moose Eukanuba small breed puppy ![]() So it is ok to feed dry kibble along with a little bit of canned food? I think he would do much better with that but I wasn't sure if you could do both. Maybe the Evo small bites with a little canned food too? That sounds like a better idea. So that way I can leave the dry kibble out for later and just do a little bit of canned food once a day? Thanks for your help! ![]() |

| ![]() I feed my Sassy Evo dry...Red meat small bites or chicken flavor small bites. She likes it and has done very well on it since I switched to it a few months ago. I had to find something that was grain-free due to allergies and Evo is great! I cant find the canned Evo around here or I would mix it with their dry food. Hope your baby feels better soon! ![]()

Is there a reason your vet advised against a gradual change ? Was he having a allergic reaction to the Eukenuba or is there a medical reason the vet didn't want you to do a gradual switch ? If not , than even though Eukanuba isn't the best food I would still start slowly and do a gradual switch over to the new food . I think it would be better for him to be on it {Eukenuba} for a week or so and switched over to a better food gradually than to have to go through days and having diarrhea and being sick, which can be dangerous to a young pup.

| ![]() I'm doing the same as Chloesmama and highly recommend EVO dry. I mix the smalled amount of the canned Evo (Venison) with Snickers' EVO kibble (chicken) just to cover it in the morning and then for his 2nd meal in evening he gets just dry and I leave it out from 4:30-6:30/7pm. He picks at it all evening and usually finishes it, but in the morning he eats it all up no problem. The all canned diet will most likely never sit will with your baby b/c he has been on kibble and his belly is used to it. Make sure the change is gradual...it will help. Good luck to you...we are very happy with this food!!! Smiles--

Donating YT 1000 Club Member | ![]() We'll my boy is on EVO dry food, he was on the red meat but I just switched him to chicken. I was told you did need to mix the old food with the new for at least a week. When I switched my boy to EVO he actually picked out the EVO food and left the old. And he was fine. I can't give my boy the mushy wet food because it gives him diahrea. And evo doesn't seem to make Chunky Wet food, so I feed my boy the dry EVO and Merrick in canned food. I mix his dry food in the morning with the wet chunky food and in the evening he just gets dry. He has done really well on EVO and his hair is so shiny. I just love it! ![]() |

| ![]() Hi Everyone! Thank all of you SO much for responding so quickly and helping so much! ![]() Here's the update on Moose so far... We made it through the night but it was a really rough night, he threw up all of the lamb and rice bland food that I was giving him to calm his tummy. He also had a little pepcid and canned pumpkin for his tummy upset. Moose had diarheaa throughout the night and into this morning. I have been force feeding him water and pedialyte to keep him from getting so dehydrated. He ate a little more lamb and rice this morning, but also threw this up ![]() Right now, I am boiling chicken and white rice and just giving him a little at a time and keeping him hydrated. He hasn't thrown up or had diarheaa in a while so this is a good sign. ![]() ![]() If Moose is still having any diarheaa or upset tummy later tonight or in the morning he will go straight in to the vet! But he seems to be doing much better this afternoon! Thanks again for everyone's help, it's so great to have a place to go to and ask questions without being judged ![]() ![]() |

I hope Moose is feeling better today. It's good he is now holding the rice and chicken down...I hope he keeps that up !! If his diarrhea comes back I would get him to the vet right away , young babies can go downhill fast when throwing up or having diarrhea. It is good to give him the liquids to keep him from dehydrating , but your vet should want to see him just to be safe. After his tummy is better , I would keep him on his regular food a week or so (to make sure his tummy upset is gone and poo's are back to normal) then gradually make the switch over to Evo dry. To keep him from eating all the Evo out of the mix you can feed his regular food and then hand feed some Evo dry kibble until it gets to the point in the switch it's OK if he just eats all the Evo out of the bowl and leaves the other. Just make it slow ....one to two weeks even ,for the sake of his tummy. Then only after you make sure he is doing well on the dry would I attempt to add canned , and even then I would only add a teaspoon just for flavor and mix it with the dry. One of mine had a very hard time switching from a bad food ( beneful) to a good food , so I know how scary and awful that can be. It took a long while for us to switch over without any trouble. Let us know how it goes.
