That's what I do. Mine eat better when I mix the canned with it , but I don't want them to only eat canned so that's why I do the mixed for breakfast ( and they eat more that way too) and then just kibble for the rest of the day if they get hungry . It works well for us.
Is there a reason your vet advised against a gradual change ? Was he having a allergic reaction to the Eukenuba or is there a medical reason the vet didn't want you to do a gradual switch ? If not , than even though Eukanuba isn't the best food I would still start slowly and do a gradual switch over to the new food . I think it would be better for him to be on it {Eukenuba} for a week or so and switched over to a better food gradually than to have to go through days and having diarrhea and being sick, which can be dangerous to a young pup.
