| How much do I feed Luna? I've been told to feed Luna 1/4 of a cup twice a day, however, as of late, I've seen that she seems to be looking around for more. She is currently a bit over 5 months. Does this mean I'm not feeding her enough? Is it safe to feed her more? How much do you feed your babies? Thanks all!

| Depends on what you're feeding your dog and how big she is, as well as the activity level. Archie eats Neura 95% Lamb wet food. I give him 1/3 of a can at each feeding, and there's always dry food (eukanuba petit) for him to munch on if he feels like it. He's 9 months old, 10 lbs. and extremely active since he goes outside a lot and plays with the neighbors' dogs. If you're feeding your puppy grocery brand food, which contains a lot of fillers, you might need to feed a little bit more to get the same nutrition as you'd get from a premium food. Neura has 95% pure lamb and the rest is vitamins and stuff and Archie still goes through 2/3 of a can per day. Growing puppies might need more food, though, or atleast an equal amount of food with more nutrients and calories. My thought on this is that it would be OK to feed your dog more, but just make sure that she gets the proper exercise so that she doesn't become overweight. I always leave food out for Archie because he doesn't eat it all in one sitting, and he's picky about how much he eats. That's what my vet recommended we do. |

| Thank you for your help! It's really helping me understand how to go about feeing Luna. Luna now weighs almost 4 lbs at 5 months. I feed her eukanuba for puppies. However, once the bag is done I'm switching to all natural food, to help her coat. However, my biggest concern still is if she is eating enough. I need exact measurements, or rather, I need suggested measurements on how much I should give her considering her weight and age. Luna saw me eating my lunch and thought I was preparing it for her, she even began to cry a bit and go back and forth to her empty bowl. So, then I decided to give her a mid afternoon snack, which was just her food but half of what I usually give her, so it was 1/8 of the eukanuba petit. I will do the same within the next couple of hours, until her actual dinner time. I hope that's fine.

| Hi Funky, I read online that there is a certain formula you follow on how much you feed them depending on age and weight. Many Korean people (me, Korean) have Yorkies, it's thier favorite breed along with Maltese. It was a Korean site I read, and I felt at that time, I wasn't over feeding or or under feeding Max. I think it said somethign like for a Yorkie that is 3 pounds, you feed them 1/4 cup twice. At the time, Max was 3.5 pounds. I fed him 1/4 cup twice and 1 snacks a day. 1 snack size is one spoonful or pebble size treat. Now Max is about 4.5 pounds, and still a puppy, so I feed him a little more than 1/4 cup twice a day and 3-5 treats. But it also said as the dog matures you need not feed them as much as you used to. I will do more research, I need to know too. I will let you know, since you may not be able to read Korean. K? |

| Hey Funky, Ok, I re-read the site. It says, for every 1kg of the puppy's body weight, you want to give 5% in grams (of his body weight). So, Luna is 4 lbs. That is about 2 kg. (1kg=2.2 lbs). And 5% of 2 kg is 100 grams. I believe 1 cup is about 80 gms and 1/2 cup is about 40 gms, so you want to give a little more than 1/2 cup each time you feed him. And of course, I like to add a couple of snacks here and there, only a spoonful at a time though. Like today, b/f Max's dinner, I gave him some cut up pieces of peaches I was eating. Now, when they mature (after 1 year for Yorkies), you want to give them about 4% or the body weight, so 1/2 cup twice daily will be fine. Add a couple of snacks I noticed that Max is always ready for food and treats. I think maybe Luna is hungry if she was even crying, but maybe Luna is just likes eating like Max I believe many yorkies just love eating. Cheers! |
