Because of Ellie's liver issues, she can't take just anything. On three occasions her vet had an idea of what she should give (once for anesthesia, once for pain control and once for steroids) but wasn't 10000% sure. So what did she do? She looked it up or got a second opinion. She was right all three times and double checking didn't hurt a thing.

| ![]() You know its like the doctors are killing us and the vets are killing our babies. I for one don't trust nothing anymore. When Mandy passed away in Nov. I thought about Interceptor and other things she had been given, which I wondered may have contributed to her having cancer. All the chemicals scare me to death. I took Kayla in last week because I thought she might have collasped treacha. She made sounds unlike reversed sneezing to me but the vet thought that was what it was or maybe an allergy. SHe gave her a shot and some meds. I think I gave her 2 pills and threw the rest away. I am scared to death of what they are giving our babies. Mandy had took some meds to help her breathing because the cancer was all over her. It wasn't long until she had a seizure. I just think if you can possibly get by without giving them anything your better off and they sure are. |

![]() ![]() ![]() I just don't know what to do. You think everything is fine until something bad happens...and then it might be too late. It's like I don't know who to pick or who to trust. How do you know you have a *GOOD* vet ![]()

![]() ![]() You said that Mandy had Cancer (my Cocker Spaniel that passed away did as well) and you said that she started having seizures shortly after she was given the medication.....do you mind me asking what the name of the medication was that she was given? I think the best (and pretty much the ONLY) thing we can do to *truly* protect ourselves and our babies is to DO OUR OWN RESEARCH. I honestly and truly realize now just *how* extremely important this is. I swear to you my babies will never again a day in their life be given ANY type of medication without my getting online and doing extensive research on it first. I mean it is just so important for the health and safety of our babies. It's sad when you think about it, because you shouldn't *have* to do that - but obviously it is so necessary as there are MANY, MANY cases of dogs losing their lives because of medications that are given. And yes all medications DO have side effects and sometimes you just DON'T KNOW what is going to happen until a medication is given....BUT....in *my* two cases (with my Cocker Spaniel, and with Tatum) these medications shouldn't of even be given in the FIRST PLACE - and THAT is what is such a shame.

Just find a good listener and somebody that is willing to learn from their clients.

DO NOT GIVE HER ASPIRIN!! no dog should be given aspirin especially when you know they will be undergoing a surgical procedure in the future. aspirin is a blood thinner and can cause excess bleeding during surgery. Metacam is what we prescribe for small dogs after any type of orthopedic surgery (also before surgeries too if the owner wants to wait). If she is this bad she should really be having the surgery as soon as you can. i know your scared about putting her under but she really needs this done if she's hurting. she'll be so much better off afterwards. the recovery will be more difficult for YOU then for her because your the one who is going to need to follow the rules for her (no running, jumping, playing, beds, furniture, stairs, yada, yada, yada for 2 months). she will need to be crated or baby gated separetely from steddy. when she's not in that crate she needs to be on a leash at your side or in your arms/doggie carriet. no walking around by herself getting into trouble. all it takes is 1 second of you not paying attention to her for her to break her leg. i see it all the time.

| ![]() Ellie took Metacam before we knew she had a liver issue and did just fine with it. I've never looked up the negative reports on it but I'd guess it is quite a bit more tolerable than something like Rimadyl. While I don't know anything about the surgeons you are looking at, when in doubt, my opinion is go to a veterinary school. The other surgeon may be just as good but you seem to be questioning him/her...
