| Congratulations on getting your first Yorkie. Based on her weight at 12 weeks, I would think she will be around 3 lbs grown. Do you know what the breeder is feeding her? In the beginning I suggest you feed her what the breeder has been feeding her and hopefully it is a quality food. Personally, because of her size I would recommend the Solid Gold Wee Bits. You can go to Http://dogfoodanalysis.com and click on reviews to read about the different dog foods available. Personally, I would recommend getting one of the 5 star rated dog foods. I feel that many of the 6 star food are not suitable for yorkies because of the high protein content. Best of luck with you new baby. We will be looking forward to seeing pictures. |

| Hi! Welcome! Congrats on your new baby!! Like bjh suggested, I would continue with the food that she is currently eating. Do some research and decide if you want to change then just do it slowly. Also, I free feed my crew. Since Hypoglycemia is such a big issue when they are this small I always wanted food available to them. Please post pictures when you can!

| I remember when I was waiting to bring Daisy home. I was excited and nervous all at the same time. All I did was read anything and everything I could find on Yorkies. Believe me it helped!!! I asked a million and one questions and got wonderful responses. YT is an amazing site and the people are very helpful. In saying that I feed Daisy Natural Balance, I think its good but im looking around for something else. She will not eat the dry food unless I mix the soft with it. She's a bit spoiled lol As far as the potty training, I got very lucky. It seemed like she picked it up as soon as we got her home. Yes she had a few accidents (but that’s expected) she is almost 4 months now and we haven’t had any accidents for quite some time. I paper trained her. We don’t take her outside at all right now, it’s too cold! I got her when she was 8 weeks old. A bit young but she is doing wonderful!!! This is my first puppy so im new at all of this, but I couldn’t imagine my life without her!! A lot of people say to keep your Yorkies confined to one place in the house until he or she is trained. I didn’t do that. Daisy has been running around the house since day one. You do have to baby proof your home, but its worth it! She does have a play pen we keep her in when no ones home. I would highly recommend that. I also have a crate I would use when she was bad, but that’s in the basement now I’ve only used it a few times and honestly I don’t think you will need one unless you plan on crate training. I could go on and on about Yorkies, I absolutely love my pup. But if you ever need to talk to a first time yorkie owner ill help as much as I can. There are plenty of us here on YT!! Good luck and Congrats again. Friday can’t come soon enough. Oh BTW good choice on getting your pup on Friday the first few days they shouldn’t be alone! Good Luck again! Daisy and Desaree |

| Wow. One pound at 12 weeks is super tiny. I would do all the research you can on yorkies quick before you get her. They are prone to numerous health problems and are notoriously hard to potty train. I hope the puppy is from a reputable breeder who screens for genetic health defects such as luxating patellas, liver shunt and leggs-perthe, just to name a few. Does this breeder offer a health guarantee? As far as diet, I certainly wouldn't do anything different than the breeder does at this time. At one pound the puppy is in serious danger-zone territory for hypoglycemia so it will need to be watched like a hawk for the first couple weeks. At that age/weight he will need food available 24/7.

YorkieTalk Newbie! | I got her from a pet store! I was looking at getting a chihuahua and I saw her and just picked her up and fell in love with her. I played with her for 2 hours in the store and I met the breeder she owns the store! and yes the have a guarantee and they are getting all the test done before i take her home. she is on royal canine mini. How old should she get spayed because she is so tiny? I work at the SPCA and I watch the surgery's and I'm worried that it's going to be to harsh on her! I cant wait to get her Friday!! Ps what do you like for a name Molly or Dolly! Thank you everyone |
