| Dry Skin Please Help!!!! Hello everyone! My baby is 4 1/2 months old. Today after his bath I noticed that his skin was very very dry and flaky. When I was in petsmart today I asked the groomer there for help. She said the reason is because I am bathing him way too much. I bath him once a week. She said I should not bath him no more then once a month. But that is all the help she gave. I feed him wellness. I shampoo and condition him with Cranberry Fields. Once a day I spray him with a detangler and brush him to help with matting. I have a funny feeling that the detangler is building up on his skin and causing the dryness. What do you think?? Did this happen to anyone? How can I get rid of the dryness. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!! Thank you again!!!!!! Mommy to Cody |

| I bath my yorkies about once a week and it doesn't have an affect on their skin, though I'm sure all yorkies are different. One of mine has a skin issue and the vet just gave us antibotics and a special shampoo to use (we have to up the bathing to twice a week with it). So maybe have a vet check his skin out to see if there is a deeper issue.

| teddy had dry skin and my vet recommended nizoral (dandruff shampoo) and I did that twice a week until he lost his puppy hair. And now I wash him with oatmeal shampoo for dogs.. it worked really well hope that helps. |

| Hi ang ..saw you had a post and that cody has dry skin. I bath Felicity once a week and have no prob. i use a childrens shampoo with conditioner in it. works great for her and detanges too. it may be the detangler if it is new. We just got this great brush recently too. it looks like a human hair brush. almost boar bristle on one side and straight metal on the other. its gray with a black handle..dont know the name of it but i believe we got it at walmart. ill ask kelly. he brushes her everyday and felicity loves the soft side and when he gets a knot he flips it over to get it out. brushing will also bring out the natural oils too. |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | It could be the detangler. My vet says that anytime a dog shows skin issues, if you are bathing once a week - you should decrease it to once every other week (or wait even longer if possible). I'm now bathing them about once every 2-3 weeks and they're fine. Does she actually itch? Or is her skin just flaking?

| I bathe mine once a week. I alternate between our regular Bio-Groom shampoos and conditioners and a hypo-allergenic, soap-free formula with fatty acids. If you suspect the detangler is an issue, I would just take that out of the equation for a while. I would also add some omega 3 and 6 fatty acids to the diet. I know the heat can be exceptionally drying in the winter, so maybe that's part of it too. Good luck!!

| Thank you Thank you everyone for your great advise! I am no longer using the detangler. I bought a hypo allergenic set by hylyt. Shampoo, conditioner, and bath oil. It really has been helping. I really think the detangler was building up on his skin. Thank you all for your help!!! Hi Melissa!!! I would love to get more info on that brush!!
