I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | Never had a little girl, so I can't help you with your questions, my main advice, is to keep her away from all male dogs, no matter what age. I've heard of some getting pregnant on their first heat, by what they though was a male puppy. Don't allow her to go outside by herself either. Good luck with her!

| I'm not sure that I understand your question. Your girl is in her first heat. How old is she? You can bathe and groom them but they shouldn't go to the groomers where there are males around.

| I've never had a female yorkie in heat, but I did have a Border Collie mix in heat. It's fine to bathe them and have them groomed. I've groomed dogs in heat before. There are also panties or diapers that you can buy for her to wear.

| OK - here you go -here are some suggestions... First - she will spot - there will be small amounts of blood. You can protect your furniture/carpet/clothes by putting a diaper on her. YOu can purchase doggie diapers, use a hankerchief or even go get some newborn baby diapers and cut a hold in them for the tail. She can be bathed and it's important to keep her clean. She WILL keep herself clean. Her vulva will become enlarged - this is normal - don't freak out! The swelling will go down at the end. Heat cycle is around 21 days in three phases with the last phase being "standing heat" where she will stand for a male. This does NOT mean that she won't stand during any part of it. If you are not breeding - keep her safe and away from males. Mailes will SNIFF HER OUT. You will have potential suitors at your door because of her phermones. She may go through a personality change during this time. I have had bitches that are aggressive and others that are very loving. Most are in all those ranges at different times of the cycle. I hope this helps! Others will be along also to assist and provide input! Take their suggestions - they are here to help! If you aren't going to breed my suggestion would be to get her spayed after her heat cycle. It's a personal decison on your part but lots of reasons why you should - for her health reasons. You're gonna do great! Welcome!!!!!

Living My Yorkie Dream Donating Member | As I understand it...your female is 1 year & 2 months old and is in her first heat? Yes, first & foremost, do keep her far away from an intact male dogs to prevent unwanted pregnancy. We cannot express that enough. There really isn't any special instructions in caring for a yorkie in heat. Yes you can bathe her & groom her as usual; many females are very good at keeping themselves "clean" in their vulva area, so much so that you may not notice alot of bleeding and may not have problems with them staining your clothes or the furniture. Pet stores do sell doggie diapers to use during their heat cycles to protect furniture & clothing if you feel the need or prefer. Hope this helps.

| puppy heat My Honey also started heat at 7 months. We bought her baby "onesies" with large winged sanitary pads. the diapers didn't work for her-she kept tearing them off. Just a suggestion-good luck!
