| Leptospirosis vaccine To all those who love their beloved pets especially yorkies. Please do not get this shot. Last night my family's beautiful 3 yr old Toby was killed after only 30 minutes of this shot. He was given a combination shot with rabies and bordetella as the others. His little heart couldn't handle it and he soon after stopped breathing. Our pets are being victim to vet economics and careless health profesionals who are only concerned with how many shot they can administer. VCA were the killers of my dog and now my family will be forever changed because irresponsible vets couldn't apply common sense. A 5 lb dog shouldnt have 3 shots within 30 min, his little heart couldnt take it and he was unfairly taken from us. Our lives' will never be the same again. |

| I am so sorry for your loss. This is so sad. For new puppy shots... Our vet gives shots individually and then we return the next week for next puppy series shot. Only the shot charge each week and no visit charge. We have to stay 30 min at the office after any shot or vaccination. No Lepto shots for small dogs like Yorkies. Any shot given is given alone. Never mixed with other vaccines.

| Years ago we gave the lepto vaccine to our dogs and we had no problems with reactions. About 5 years ago, we stopped giving it because it just did not seem justified given our dogs' level of risk and also because the vaccines only covered some of the strains of bacteria found in our area. We never had problems with reactions to vaccines but many have and lepto is one that many dogs react to.

| I called at least 6 vets in our area before I found one that would agree to NOT give the lepto vaccine. When Teddy got his shots a few months ago our new vet did not recommend the lepto vaccine. She told us that she has only given it to about 5 or 6 dogs in the last 5 years. We took Daisy in last month for her shots and NOW the vet is recommending the lepto vaccine. She says there are increasing cases of lepto in our area. So we did get the lepto shot for both of them, but not at the same time as the Rabies shot. Both of mine are 15 lbs and have had the shots for 7 yrs now with no problems. We do have opossom's in our yard as well as neighbor's cats roaming around and there are a lot of wild critters at the park where we walk them. I was torn about giving them the shot but I do want them to be protected. If there is a titers test for lepto I will get that next year before I get the shot again. I will have to find out about that.

Donating Senior Yorkie Talker | VCA gave my Lewie Lepto, bordatella, parvo, DA2P, AND RABIES AT THE SAME TIME. SHE ASSURED ME IT WAS OKAY, and I didn't even know they were giving LEPTO until i saw the invoice, I WAS REALLY REALLY MAD. NEVER AGAIN. LEWIE got sick for a week and wasn't himself until 2 weeks later. My poor baby. I'm just so happy he's still alive and nothing major happened for him, but still.

Donating Senior Yorkie Talker | I’m not sure how old this thread is but I have a brand new Yorky who is four months old. Any new comments on giving him the lepto vaccine Since they supposedly improved it. One of my Yorkies had a bad reaction so I never vaccinated the other with lepto. |

| I live in Pennsylvania in a heavily wooded area, lots of wild life. Lepto is not a required vaccine. Sorry, I also do not have any new information.

| You need to talk to your vet about if it’s a big issue in your area or not. If it is and you are worried about a reaction you could always ask the vet your pups dose of Benadryl and give it before your appointment. Callie was the only one of mine who had it and she never had any issues with it but I stopped giving it because it just wasn’t needed.
