| Ice to help baby teeth fall out? does anyone know if giving my yorkie ice cubes will help his baby teeth fall out? i took him to the vet today to get neutered and my vet said that his teeth need to fall out by november or he'll have to get them surgically removed. i hear this procedure costs hundreds of dollars. i've been giving him bully sticks, but was wondering if ice cubes will also do the trick. any info would be helpful and appreciated. thanks! |

| I have never heard of ice cubes for teething. I have used rope toys, bully sticks and rib bones. But, sometimes those stubborn baby teeth will not come out on their own and will have to be removed by the vet. The longest I leave them in is 1 year max then they are pulled. I usually have them pulled at the same time I have them spayed or neutered. My vet only charges about 20 extra dollars for that procedure if it is done at the same time as another surgery.

| Why didn't your vet extract those baby teeth at the time of his neuter?! That's what they do here!!? Fiona lost 3 baby teeth as soon as she turned 5 months, and now she has 1 remaining one, and they are going to extract it on Tuesday when she gets spayed!

Luvs Lulu Donating Member | Call your vet and ask that while he is under that they are removed. Rediculous but it seems like they are trying to make money off of it. It's stupid that they will think to put him under again so they can do that.

well, im just surprised that your vet didnt inform you about having them extracted when he was neutered! so not your fault, their fault of course, beacuse they are probably trying to get more money from you, which is horrible to say! im not sure how many teeth they have, give him time, they may fall out on their own. my 7 yr old dachshund still has a baby tooth behind her upper k9 and she has been fine with it still being there!

| Hi My furbaby (5 months old) LOVES to chew ice cubes. She's been as good as gold and never chewed anything but her toys - until about a week ago, when anything became fair game - including fingers! It seems her teeth are bugging her. A friend who has a Springer Spaniel told me about the ice cubes, and Lucy loves them. She seems to find them really comforting. She still has all her baby teeth, but I wonder if she's about to lose them? |

They have a dog toy called a Chilly Bone (I think it's made by Multivet?) that you can soke with water and then freeze. Bella chewed on hers......and liked ice too. I don't think it does anything to help the teeth fall out so much as comfort their poor little sore gumbs since they're teething. Good luck with teething!! Play lots of tug with rope toys and give lots of hard things to chew to help them come out....maybe yours will get luckier than Bella was and not have so many that need pulled later. They say retaining deciduous teeth is very common for tiny breeds, though... | |

| I'm not sure if ice loosens teeth but it did seem to give Breyli comfort. |
