I guess that's what we'll have to do. Hubby and I will have to tag team them. I just hate doing that...ya know? I know though that it's necessary. Right now, Abby and Daisy both have pearly white teeth. *knock wood* I do "try" to brush them occasionally, but it's almost always a disaster. My little Peanut was the same way and he had the most awful breath! I could never figure out why, because his teeth were clean and white. I wonder now if he had an internal problem?

Anyway, I'll let you know if my husband I are successful in getting both the girl's teeth brushed.

Nancy I understood what you were saying. Petzlfe works well for so many of us and then someone will post that it's dangerous even though so many of us use it with no problems and it scares people away. I agree that warnings based on personal experience are helpful for many, but I think it's the type of product that you truly have to try for yourself. I stand by my opinion that part of the reason I'm brushing is for tartar but honestly part of it is also to make their breath better and I'll take mint flavored over poultry flavored any day. Unless you are overusing the Petzlife in large quantities I'm sure it's fine.

I wouldn't give poultry digest either.
With some hesitation, I use one with sorbitol only because there aren't adverse reports on it for dogs. Ellie's toothpaste is vanilla-mint flavored and it smells like root beer floats.

I understand YUCK, but I don't understand why this is supposed to be bad. What ingredient here is said to be

I'm a little discouraged, Joey's teeth are in great shape, the vet remarked how good they looked, but both products that I use some people believe to be unsafe. This is just so discouraging.

In response to some posts, looking back I probably WAS using too much. Hootie is a pound smaller than Hobbs so it would take less to make her sick. I may try the petzlife again as a maintenance after I get their teeth cleaned by the vet but use much less.

If you and your vet are comfortable, why be discouraged?
After all, you two are responsible for Joey's health, not anyone on YT.

As for the Petrodex toothpaste, I have never heard reports of it being unsafe. Poultry digest is too general of a term and I won't give Ellie anything like that. That doesn't mean it will harm him though...
Just like with dog food, I would wonder where they got their poultry from and exactly what they mean by digest.
