| Mollie has bumps on her skin. Hi, I was wondering if anyone on here might be able to tell me if he/she has ever had an experience like this with his/her Yorkie. For quite a few years now, my Yorkie, Mollie has gotten occasional tiny, pimple-like bumps on her. The "pimples" come up in random and different spots on her body. They're not red, but skin-colored and when squeezed they release a thick, white substance (it is not yellow like pus would be.) I have had her to two different vets so far in her 10-year life and both assumed that she has an allergy. I'm not very concerned about them because she doesn't get them often. However, she does have one bigger bump that she has had for a few months now, which will not go away. This is bigger than the others, about the width of a chocolate chip (but it's not really raised.) It's located just above her shoulder blades and I wonder if it's caused by her top spot (tick/flea medication) that I apply to that area. However, I've used this repellent on her since she could first be treated with it, when she was about a year old and she only developed this bigger bump a few months ago. I did squeeze it a couple of times and it yielded a pea-sized amount of white, cheesy junk. It does have a slight odor, but it's only a Yorkie skin smell. Has anyone experienced this before or might anyone be able to tell me what these bumps are? Mollie and I would really appreciate it! Thanks!! |

| Oh my goodness.............doggie "zits"!!! Kidding! Could be clogged pores, but I'd be letting a Vet. look at it. The larger one could be from the flea meds. There are other ways to keep fleas, ticks, mosquitoes and such off without chemicles if your interested. Poor baby. Hope you find out what those are. Keep us updated on this.

| Yes, I'm definitely interested in a natural approach to keeping ticks and fleas off of her and I just began looking into it a few days ago. Any information you could give me about it would be great. She's been on the "best" stuff (Frontline) all the time anyway, and she's hardly ever outside, but she still managed to contract Lyme disease. I was completely devastated when my vet told me that she had it. She's all better now though, after taking doxycycline, which I'm sure wasn't good for her either. I live in Pennsylvania and the ticks here are very bad. The deer ticks are just so tiny that you can't see them! I also want to start her on a raw diet. She's currently on Wellness, which is supposedly a very good brand right now, but all animals, people included, should be eating raw, fresh food. The new diet should improve her skin. |

| Yes, she unbelievably got Lymes when she was on Frontline. She's never been off it in her life and I've always been very careful about not bathing for a few days before or after putting the liquid on. I want to find a natural alternative for it because I really don't like to put toxic chemicals on her. You're not supposed to put anything on your skin that you can't eat. Anything you put on your skin enters the bloodstream. She was on doxycycline for months and then I still had to wait months after that for a final blood test to determine if she was disease-free or not. My vet said that she had the highest amount of antibodies than any other dog she'd ever seen with Lymes. We suspect that she had struggled with the disease for a few years without us knowing. She had had a limp a few years earlier and my first vet, who is a complete idiot, said it was arthritis. I could hardly believe that such a young Yorkie, as she was at the time, would develop arthritis....well, as it turned out, it wasn't. You'd think vets in PA where the ticks are so bad would have more people have their dogs tested for Lymes when limping springs up, especially if they're very young dogs. Learning from my poor little Mollie, I'll always have all of my animals tested for it on a regular basis. |

| My heart goes out to both of you. What do you use now for tick prevention? The vets in the Albany area of NY require the test for lyme and two other tick borne diseases yearly. Does she still limp?

| Thank you. You really wouldn't know that she's 10 or that she had Lymes. She's very active and initiates a couple games of fetch with me every day. She does still have a limp in her right front leg. She goes up and down stairs using only 3 of her legs. It's funny to see her bark, because it lifts her off the ground and she keeps that leg off the ground. I try not to let her jump down from the bed or anything anymore because when she lands, she takes all of shockload with just her left front foot, which isn't enough to hold her up and she collapses on it with a thud. Other than her limp and her coat getting more white hairs in it, you'd never be able to tell that she isn't a puppy. She's a wonderful little dog. |

| It's nice to hear that even after having such an ordeal that she's still in good health. I have only been a part of this Yorkie world for 5 years. My Maltese lived to 17 and I am hoping to get at least that out of my girls. He was healthy all his life, he just got old and blind and finally deaf. Then I had to let him go. I wonder how much longer he would have lived because it became a quality of life issue. But I am curious, how much does Mollie weigh. I was hoping to see pics of her on your profile.

| Stanley has these! A whole bunch of them in various spots throughout his body. There was one however on his shoulder blade that when squeezed, pus would come out. Now it grew reallly big and he is going in for surgery next week to get them removed =(. They are going to send it out for a biopsy.

reading this made me think of something, does she have bumps under her chin? because believe it or not, dogs can get acne! i was always told that it could be caused from plastic bowls...and to use stainless steel ones...sorry, just made me think of that!!!!

I'm so glad that someone else has finally said their dog has the same things! I don't want to put her under to get them removed because they're probably an allergy and surgery won't stop them from coming back. I hope that Stanley gets better! Maybe you could experiment with natural flea/tick prevention and giving him a raw diet to combat the bumps. How big did the one get? | |

| It could be a cyst, my yorkie started getting small little bumps on her skin that were skin colored in different places, but on the back of her shoulder she had one that just kept getting bigger and bigger and the vet said not to worry about it and last month i was walking around the house holding her and the cyst erupted when i took her to a new vet they said it was uncommon for younger dogs to get cyst, but i assume that is what the other smaller bumps that went away were, that or clogged pours because when i squeezed them something small would come out and that was all not puss but something that looked kind of like a little skin colored seed and then they go away. |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Sounds like it could be a follicular cyst. Dogs who get these usually get them thru out their lives. Some of the cysts might come and go. Whereas other one keep getting bigger, and won't shrink...so then, yep, removal time.
