Donating YT 500 Club Member | btw, I'm NOT interested in keeping Zoe to breed her, I will schedule her spay, but she's 8 months old and I think she's close to having her first heat, so I want to be prepared. Thanks guys

| I know that a male dog will do whatever they have to do to get to a female in heat. I do not think that anything will keep them from getting to them. She needs to be isolated and any male also. We have a dog in town that is in heat. Our male Chi thinks that she is his woman. She is a PitBull and there are several males that are huge stalking her. He tries to get out the door every chance he gets. Last time she was in heat he made it out the door once. He ended up with a skull fracture and a near death experience. This time she is in heat he is only driven by the scent and doesn't even remember what happened last time. My point is THEY WILL STOP AT NOTHING!!! I would get her fixed if you don't want to breed her. And if you do want to breed her later, ISOLATE HER. If you have a male, know that they can breed through crates and fences. So make sure you do it up double time. |

| Sophie My little girl Sophie just went into heat in the past couple of weeks and I'm afraid she may have gotten pregnant. This is her first heat and she is 9 months old. I want to breed her, but I hear that it's not good to breed them in the first heat. I don't want anything to happen to her if she is too young to breed. Can her body handle it? If she is she would have been impregnated by my boy yorkie Deuce. He is 11 months. I did my best to keep them separated and took them to my mother during the week when I was at school to keep them from tying. Aparently that happened anyways. Please give me any info on how she may handle this! and me too!!!! |

| First heat could be anywhere from 6 months to maybe 18 months. It last maybe about 21 days (one week coming in, one week in and one week going out). You can use diapers if you want. If at all possible, it would probably be good to have her spayed before her first heat because if you do, she will have almost a 0% chance of getting mammary cancer.
