| A little worried. 1st of all, my respects and admiration to everyone involved in this website, everyone! 2nd of all, just got a call from my vet saying my pup, Mochito, is gonna have around 11 teeth pulled, he has periodontal disease. I'm soo upset at myself 4 not taking all the precautions before 2day, i'm even thinking of pulling 11 of my teeth out, so me and mochi can suffer together. I can guarantee though that from now on, my Mochis mouth will be in better shape than mine. All support appreciated. p.s. if ur dog gets diagnosed with periodontal disease, please take all precautions to subside it. Thnx to All. Sorry again Mochi |

| Oh no!! How old is Mochi? I know periodontal disease is very common in these lil pups and thats why some of us decide to go with the dry food instead of wet food. Although they may still have issues. I recently acquired a finger tooth brush but Romeo is so scared of it, I've tried here and there and he doesn't even come close to it!! I wonder if someone else has experience with these finger tooth brushes and can maybe post some tips!! Poor Mochi! I feel so bad for her! Keeping her in my prayers and hope everything goes well!!

| Oh goodness, please don't be so hard on yourself. Ellie had to have 9 teeth pulled. She has periodontal disease also. Is your vet going to start your pup on OraVet? I highly recommend it.

Donating YT 30K Club Member | Welcome. Don't be so mad at yourself/ I got Pixie at 13 months and really didn't bother much with her teeth, like my others and then she gor terrible breath and by the time I took her in she had perodontal disease. She is 2 1/2 and had her teeth cleaned and 5 pulled and they look beautiful. I now clean all of their teeth everyday. My older dogs teeth were fine it just depends on their genetics how bad their teeth are and the proper care.

| Sorry I haven't kept anyone posted about how Mochi is doing. Well, when went to pick him up.. we spoke with the vet and he wet over what he did to him. So he told us... he pulled out 25 teeth!! When he said that I wanted to cry. I felt like a bad mother. So i brought him home and his sis was so excited to see him. But Mochi was so grawgy... he growled at her every time she went near him. I felt so bad.. he must of been in pain. But today he's back to his normal self.. loving his wet food & wanting to play with his sister. But I can't really let him play.. because I don't want his incisions to rip. But other than that he's doing great!! |

| My little Cinnamon (5 yrs old) had 15 teeth pulled yesterday. It was a shocker for me because I have been brushing diligently AND spraying Petzlife. I'm so anal about her teeth. I've been going to the same vet since I've had her at 15 wks old. Her teeth were great for the first 2.5 years, then last year at 4 years old, I noticed about 2 of her front teeth were loose. He did a teeth cleaning and had to extract three of her teeth; two on the front top and one on the bottom. Oh, Cinnamon only eats dry kibble; she used to eat Royal Canin, then I switched to Solid Gold Health Just a Wee bit about 1.5-2yrs ago. Two weeks ago, I went to the vet for a checkup. Her teeth looked great to me, and I didn't see that any were loose or dirty. I was actually proud of how her teeth looked!! The vet said, her teeth looked great too just by looking at them, and he can see that I am brushing them. However, the vet showed me how how gum was recessing on one tooth, and it was sign of peridontal disease. She went for her cleaning yesterday, and after the cleaning, he called to let me know that he wanted to pull at least 9 teeth, but there could be more because of peridontal pockets. I felt horrible. I give him approval to do it because I don't want it to cause her health issues in the future. He mentions her mouth is tiny, and her teeth were so crowded that it would be very hard for me to clean perfectly. When I went to pick her up yesterday, he pulled 15 teeth and showed me the x-rays of her little mouth and the crowding, and he gave me her teeth and explained each tooth's issue and why it needed to be pulled. Some could have remained to see if the issue progressed, but to save the major teeth from having issues in the future, he pulled them. So now she has about 20-23 teeth left, but can be back to eating dry kibble in 1-2 weeks if her mouth is not sore. I picked Cinnamon up 4 hours after the procedure (4:30pm), and she was completely out of it. She recognized me, and went crazy for me to hold her, then just dead weight in my arms. She couldn't really do anything except moan; she wouldn't walk or stand or drink water. Her nose was dripping. I called my vet (his office number goes straight to his cell phone after hours which is great!), and he says to give her some food with a drop of her pain medication. At about 8pm, she was almost back to her Cinnamon-self. This morning, she is her happy little self (with a little moaning sometimes) running around and giving kisses. I just don't know what else to do about keeping her teeth healthy. I don't know if I should switch foods or give her different dental treats. My vet says to keep giving her dry kibble and continue brushing as thoroughly as I can. |

| I'm glad to hear that Cinnamon is doing better!! It's been 2 weeks since my little Mochi had 25 teeth pulled out. Today, he is doing great! My bother watches him in the mornings when I'm in school/work, then switch turns at night. He's back to his normal activities.. which some of my brother and I still restrict from him, like playing tug-of-war with his sister. His vet said not to do any home care until he see's him again next week. Which I'm excited to find out what hom care I can start on. As far as food, what I've been doing with Mochi... since he had a lot of teeth pulled and he doesn't have many teeth left. He also was eating dry kibble. Now, I crush his dry food and mix it with a little wet food so it'll go down better. He loves it! Until I find out if he can eat dry food, I'm scared to give it to him. I'm afraid he'll swallow it whole. Has Cinnamon received the Porphyromonas vaccine? It helps with periodontal disease and helps prevent it. Mochi received it when he got his procedure done and I highly recommend it! It's a new vaccine, and hasn't reached all animal hospital's. But you should definitely look into it! p.s- My brother is (newskin)... if your wondering why we might talk of the same Mochi. |

| That's wonderful that Mochi is doing great! How old is Mochi? Is Mochi's sister's teeth ok? I wonder how many yorkies on here have periodontal disease since it is very common. So your vet says to not do any homecare for 3 weeks; mine says to refrain from brushing for at least a week. During this time, plaque will be forming, so I'm spraying Petzlife in Cinnamon's mouth. My vet hasn't mentioned the porphyromonas vaccine, but I will ask him about it tomorrow. At this point, I actually don't even know how bad Cinnamon's periodontal disease is. He mentioned that if she was a larger breed, he would've left some of the teeth that he pulled, but since she's so small, the pockets would be too hard for me to clean so it is best to just pull them to help save the remaining completely healthy teeth. I completely agree. Yesterday, I just fell apart, feeling so bad about her poor little teeth, but Cinnamon is just so happy and seems to care less about her missing teeth right now. Bless her little heart. Once I can start back brushing Cinnamon's teeth daily and using Petzlife, I'm also considering using Suzie's Tartar Liquid (Suzie's Tartar Liquid eliminates bad dog breath and bad cat breath.). I'm also going to take her for a professional toothbrushing once a month at her groomer's or maybe Petsmart. Then I will have her vet check on her teeth/gums every 2-3 months. I just don't want Cinnamon to lose her remaining teeth. |

| Periodontal disease is very common in yorkie's!! Both my Mochi and Chiqui are turning 4 in December. To me, Chiqui's teeth seem nice and white. I'm also taking her with her brother next week to get her teeth checked as well. While Mochi will be getting his booster for the vaccine and going over what home care to start on him. His vet said he will have to get his teeth cleaned every 6 months. Chiqui will also be getting her teeth cleaned soon. I hope her results will be disease free.. |
