That's wonderful that Mochi is doing great! How old is Mochi? Is Mochi's sister's teeth ok? I wonder how many yorkies on here have periodontal disease since it is very common. So your vet says to not do any homecare for 3 weeks; mine says to refrain from brushing for at least a week. During this time, plaque will be forming, so I'm spraying Petzlife in Cinnamon's mouth.
My vet hasn't mentioned the porphyromonas vaccine, but I will ask him about it tomorrow. At this point, I actually don't even know how bad Cinnamon's periodontal disease is. He mentioned that if she was a larger breed, he would've left some of the teeth that he pulled, but since she's so small, the pockets would be too hard for me to clean so it is best to just pull them to help save the remaining completely healthy teeth. I completely agree. Yesterday, I just fell apart, feeling so bad about her poor little teeth, but Cinnamon is just so happy and seems to care less about her missing teeth right now. Bless her little heart.
Once I can start back brushing Cinnamon's teeth daily and using Petzlife, I'm also considering using Suzie's Tartar Liquid (
Suzie's Tartar Liquid eliminates bad dog breath and bad cat breath.). I'm also going to take her for a professional toothbrushing once a month at her groomer's or maybe Petsmart. Then I will have her vet check on her teeth/gums every 2-3 months. I just don't want Cinnamon to lose her remaining teeth.
