| Mushy Gooey Pooey I have had Jockey now for about 5-6 weeks. He is 5 1/2 months old and is absolutely adorable. I gradually changed his food from Nature's Balance (that the Breeder was feeding him) to Innova which is what my other pup is currently eating. He loves the food and I thought all is well. Now, I'm not so sure. Since I have had him he has never had a firm healthy stool like my other pup and I am wondering if this is the food that I am feeding him? I know that Innova is one of the better puppy foods and I have a large bag of it but I need some advice and want to know if that could be the culprit. Should I change him to another food? I know that there are other threads on similar issues but I haven't found one that is giving me the answer that pertains to his particular situation. I also have him in an obedience class, which as you know requires treats as incentives.....he is doing great but I also thought the various treats may be the issue, so now I only give him the blandest of the treats. He does not have diarrhea but it is mushy and sometime a gooey gelatin type substance follows. Any words of wisdom would be so appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Donating YT 1000 Club Member | Sorry I can't help you, Max is having the same issue on and off, we are also in the process of switching foods, so today I'll be taking him to the vet, I am afraid parasites could be the reason, and don't want to take any changes. I'm interested to know the answers you get, they may put my mind at easy.Good luck with your baby.

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Is this Innova or Innova EVO? So, he's *never* had a firm poo? Have you had him fecal tested? I'd remove all treats for now so you can eliminate other factors. The gel at the end sounds like he's emptying his anal glands on his own, which, on one hand - is good that he's emptying them. And it's not surprising they're filling up, with the mushy poos. But, you're very smart to address this quickly. Fecal tests would be my first move. If this is EVO, you'd want to consider the fact that EVO, for whatever goofy reason, is higher in fat and some dogs have issues with this. I think the higher protein is fine, but I hear of issues w/ the higher fat, mostly. Did he ever have giardia or anything before?

| I got TJ when he was 13 weeks old, he was eating Euk. I too chnaged his food to Innova, and while he loved it, it was too rich for him. #1 he poops smelled rich. And then the mucus poops started. TJ did wind up having an overgrowth of bacteria (nightmare-took a year to clear up). But I still believe that the Innova was too rich for his body to handle. How about Canidae? |

Yes, he has had a fecal test and it came back negative. Whew! And the food I am feeding him is the Innova Puppy not the Evo because I had read about the Evo being too high in protein and too rich for these little guys. No he hasn't had giardia or anything....it was all negative. Darn it. I just don't know what to do. Do you think I should gradually switch him to a different type of kibble?

2) I can't find "Natures Balance" - can you tell me which one specifically he was eating? If you can, we can look at the ingredients of the 2 foods you've now tried and then find the common ingredients that may be irritating his system, and go from there, okay?

Yes, you are correct on the no firm poo since I have had him. And I apologize, the dog food the breeder had him on was Dick Van Patten's Natural Balance from puppy to adult dog food. I had it wrong by saying it was Nature's Balance...sorry. I would love love love your help. Thank you so much. Another thing, when he does go poo, he usually doesn't go it all at once....there is usually some drippies and the gooies afterwards for a bit and I know it bugs him cuz he seems annoyed with his hiney.....poor guy. Thank you for enlightening me that he was emptying his anal glands, I had no idea what that was but now it makes sense.

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Is it called "puppy to adult" and/or is there a flavor? I'm searching for it now.

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | I'm thinking you had him on "Ultra Premium" bc it's All Life Stages - was it a white bag w/ blue?

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Chicken and Barley are the 2 things right off the bat that bother me the most. How big is that kibble? Little or average? It would GREAT if you could try Wellness Core Ocean (a fish kibble) - but I'm unsure of the size of the kibble. How much does your baby weigh?

The Natural Balance kibble was the small bites and the Innova Puppy Formula only comes in one size kibble....and they really aren't big at all. He is close to 2 1/2 lbs. So are you thinking he may be allergic to chicken &/or barley or just sensitive to those two ingredients?

| I will check and see who sales Wellness around here while I'm online. I found 3 places that carry it....I will need to look into seeing which formulas they have if you end up thinking that is something I should try.
