| Susan; I really believe that additives to foods could be a big source of allergies. I use exclusively Life's Abundance - no additives! Let me know and I'll me happy to send you some free samples. CLick on my signature line for more information on the food and treats!

| I was about to start a thread on this issue. I'm happy you did. Great minds think alike :P I was looking online and Petco seems to have a nice variety. I found NATURAL BALANCE Limited Ingridient Diets Premium Lamb Formula and it's $37.99 for a case of 24. I would love to hear some opinions on this particular dog food. Good? Bad? Awful? P.S: Sorry for the thread jack

| My mom's dog eats NB Potato & Duck and does well on it. They also have a few other allergy formulas that look good. California Natural is another good allergy food with limited ingredients which is really great. Good luck!

Chicken doesn't go well for a few but for most it is fine. The same goes for beef and all other meats.

| Not Too Much of a Change Johnny was eating a prescription diet, Royal Canin Potato and Duck, but still itched and scratched. Recently I switched to NB Potato & Venison and he still itches and scratches. Vet said allergy free diets need to eliminate the source of protein such as beef, lamb, or chicken which leaves duck and venison and salmon in most of the prepared foods. There are also some vegetarian foods. I'm not sure which one of these is, but the vet suggested Innova Evo, Wellness Core, Solid Gold, and Barking at the Moon. Some are not easy to find. Johnny also takes an antihistimine and a vitamin prescribed by a holistic vet as I try to elminate the Atopica. Good luck in finding relief and keep us informed.

| allergy food I make Latte fish and sweet potato. She chomps it down, especially if I put some cheese on it and lately, a pinch (and I mean a pinch) of raw beef. She doesn't scratch so much as lick. I have begun to wonder if most of her allergies are not so much food related as environmental. She seems to itch/lick more during certain times of the year and more when it windy here in the desert. |

| I Agree I think you're right about environmental not food allergies. I feel the same about Johnny. How many different diets can we possibly try and still think it's food allergies? (rhetorical question)

| So Natural Balance seems to be the winner here....I'm looking for a new food, my little Johnny has me up all night itching - just around his back legs and bottom. I've fed my two yorkies - 1 1/2 and 2 yrs old Nutro Puppy - either the lamb and rice or the chicken and oatmeal - since they could eat and I've always thought it's been good for them but I think I need to switch. He doesn't have fleas and nothing has changed in the house. Does anyone give benadryl for itching??? |
