| ![]() hey guys here I go with my food questions again. Abby has been on wellness turkey for a couple of months now. She eats it with cottage cheese. Anyway we got jack two weeks ago n he seems to get upset tummy n diarrhea wen he eats the kibble. Well he's been eatin canidae all life stages Kibble all his life he's about to b three on late October. Anyway abby is starting to gobble up thekibble. She is dpi g fine withthe slow transition. Anyway they also eat chicken n love it. Ok so to my main question I go... Is it ok to just feed them the canidae kibble and chicken? I wanna make sure that they get all the nutrients they need. I've heard nothing but great stuff about this kibble and I wanna make sure I'm doing the right thing. |

| ![]() I've heard good things about Canidae also. It would be so much easier if they were on the same food -- so I'd give it a try. Watch for any bad reaction.

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | ![]() So he does fine on the Canidae kibble but not Wellness - do I have that right? If so, I'd keep him on the Canidae - it's a nice food. As far as adding in cottage cheese and chicken: adding real food is great - you just want to remember that when the "real food" starts to exceed about 15-20% of the overall diet, you really should be supplementing and balancing the cal/phos ratio, bc it's probably out of balance at that point. ![]()

| ![]() he's been on canidae kibble but the welllness is wet food. Sorry I forgot to mention that. ABby has no prob w the kibble but he has prob with the wet food. I've been wanting to take ABby off the wet food anyway cuz I don't like the idea of her eating too much cottage cheese. She will not touch the wet food unless it has the cheese. As for the part about the 15%-20% thing.... HUH???? LOL I think I need that run by me once more I didn't get that. Shud I be adding something to the chicken? |

![]() Well, the dog food you're feeding is balanced nutritionally already - especially the calcium/phosphorous ratio (which is what people always have to be vigilant about when feeding only homecooked food). So, when you start adding *real* food to their kibble (which is balanced) - you start to change the balance. It's fine to add *some* real food - but when you start to hit a point where more than 15-20% of their food is coming from *real* food, you're tipping the balance too far - and then you need to figure out supplementation to bring it back into balance (calcium/phosphorous etc). Does that help? I hope it makes sense, it can be confusing...

| ![]() Ok so then I will only feed them one chicken breast once a day. That good? I usuLly split it 60% to 40% jack getting more cuz he's about 7lbs while Abby is about 3.6 lbs. Wud that be ok? Or am I upsetting all that stuff u mentioned? Gees I need to learn nutritional stuff. Maybe that's y I'm a fata$$ LOL. Ok it's not funny tho I shud work out or something |

If Abby eats about 1/2 cup kibble per day, even 1/8 cup of chicken might be too much. Could you cut up the chicken and give them a couple heaping spoonfuls?

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | ![]() I would follow what Crystal is telling you. Otherwise, you're upsetting the nutritional balance of the diet and need to re-balance the calcium/phosphorous ratio. If you want to re-balance their diet, you can - but I'd probably recommend you consult a nutritionist so you can go over the entire diet, their ideal weight, the exact amounts of each supplement and how to supply it and balance it. When it's not balanced, you'll probably see symptoms like you saw in your original post.

| ![]() I actually forgot to mention but the diarrhea has gone away! We realized that the wet food had given it. We don't give him as much. He will only get a little bit for breakfast and so will abby. I'm just waiting for the can to finish to completely take it away.
