| They need the dry food to help to clean thei teeth. I would decrease the amount of wet and substitute with dry. Keep doing this until he is eating all dry. |

| Start mixing the dry food with the canned food, and gradually decrease the amount of canned food. They really get addicted to that stuff. I had one that was totally resistant because they were on all canned food as a puppy. She would actually eat around the dry food I mixed in and leave it in the bowl. She finally came around. |

| It's a fallacy that dry food keeps their teeth clean.... If that was true, there wouldn't be so many kibble fed dogs that need teeth cleanings several times throughout their lives..... and our dentists would be telling us to crunch on croutons to keep our teeth clean (that's basically what kibble is, little crunchy carb bites). In the long run, I believe your dog would be better off eating a moisture filled diet, such a high quality canned food or better yet, raw. Is it just the cost that's making you want to change? You could try a pre-made raw product like Nature's Variety. A 6lb bag of the beef goes for about $25 here, and I'm guessing would feed one Yorkie for close to a month. If you do decide to change to a kibble diet, I would still at least add in some canned. The increased meat/moisture content is good for their kidneys, urinary tract system and overall health. |

| Try putting the kibble in your blender and make a powder out of it. Then feed a small amount of wet food with a little powdered kibble in it 2x's a day. The rest of the time, leave a bowl of the powdered kibble down and be sure she has water too. Gradually make the kibble chunkier in the blender and finally give her the full sized kibble. This is what we do with puppies when we are weaning them (absent the wet food of course), but they all seem to like the powdered kibble (even the moms). Good luck.

| LOL. Glad you said it. Quote:
Most people prefer dry food for longer-haired dogs just for cleanliness. Canned food gets all in their hair and you have to wash their faces every time they eat or you have a mess on your hands. I give mine some canned food occasionally (other than one that's strictly on canned food) and supplement it with some home-cooked food. | |

| Its a lil of both. The wet food that the vet suggested is expensive and he is not fond of dry food. At first he was picking the dry kibble out and eating the wet. what i did was take a tbs of warm water and would sprinke it on the dry food to get it a lil softer and bring out the aroma of the food. He now is eating the kibble with the wet food so we r making some progress. Thanks |
