If you're deworming as a precaution, a good idea, you may not see any indication that the medicine has worked.

| I haven't taken him to a vet. I thought they had taken care of that the last time I took him for his last round of shots. But I noticed the worms and I bought the medicine. |

| What did the worms look like and were they in the stool? Which medicine did you get?

| the over the counter wormers do not really do very well - get the proper med from your vet and it will be less costly and easier on the baby in the long run.

| That's a good idea, be sure to take a stool sample with you so the vet can sell you the correct dewormer. You might want to have a blood sample drawn so you can get him started on heartworm preventer while you are at it. You can use one product that will protect him against fleas, as well as heartworms and intestinal worms if you want. Good luck.

♥ love my girls!! ♥ Donating Member | The best way to go is to give "safe-gaurd" which is a powder that you mix in a little bit of wet food (or something like that....I've used beef baby food too, but I only use ~1 tsp to ~1 Tbsp. eyeball...enough to be able to mix it up). It worms them for hookworms, roundworms, whipworms, AND tapeworms (which is something most wormers don't get). You have to give it 3 days in a row (because of the whipworms lifecycle), but it works great!! And it's really affordable too. They have it at Petco but it's a lot higher there....I find it at Atwoods or my local Feed store...much cheaper, and you can find it online for cheaper too. $4.50-$4.95 is what I pay per box ($11.90 at Petco) which is 3 doses of a 1 gram packet. The 1 gram packet is for dogs up to 10 lbs., and since my baby was only 2 lbs. when I started using it (8 wks. old), I called the company to find out about changing the dose. They said to split the packet in half for dogs under 5 lbs., so one box will dose you dog twice if they're under 5 lbs. It's very safe for puppies (over 6 wks. of age) and is so inexpensive and easy to give, it's much better than an expensive vet visit and fecal exam. I declined the fecal exam at Bella's first puppy visit, and the vet wanted to know why. He grilled me about what I was using as a preventative wormer and how I was using it (has to be done 3 days in a row!!), but he was very satisfied with my choice and told me good job! I would recommend using this product since it's so easy! Here's a link to their website which should have any info you need (recommended ages, preventative schedules, etc...) I hope that helps!!
