Not eating or drinking? Gracie hasn't eaten or drank anything since 6pm last night! And it's now noon. I've been giving her Nutrical to keep her blood sugar from dropping, and while she's being a little laid back today, she doesn't really act like she's sick, other than the fact that she has been on Amoxicillin since Saturday for an upper respiratory infection. I did notice her being a little more congested today and coughing a bit more this morning, where yesterday she was fine and had tons of energy. Do you think her lack of appetite is due to the cold she has? She really doesn't want to do much besides lay around today. She did just eat two little pieces of a bacon treat and I gave her some peanut butter a few minutes ago. Still won't drink though!

Poor little Gracie! Doesn't sound as if the tabs are working and I wouldn't hesitate in taking her to the vet again if I were you! These little ones can go downhill quickly sometimes. Please let us know how she is, hugs to her!!

Definately take her back to the vet again. Talk with him/her. You may possibly want to offer her some wet food. Sometimes when they have a cold and can't smell too well, they may not want to eat. The wet food has a more pungent smell as opposed to the dry food and it may provoke her to start eating. Also ask him/her what do they think about offering her baked, skinless, boneless chicken breasts? Talk all of this over with your vet because if she is not used to this kind of food, it may cause an intestinal upset (such as loose stools or diarrhea). We certainly don't want to cause her any other problems. You may want to check her hydration status by pulling us the skin on the back of her neck between the shoulder blades. It should fall back down fairly quickly. If not, she may be dehydrated and need fluids. I hope that she gets to feeling better! Please keep us posted.

If you have just the barrel and plunger from a syringe, or if she's getting liquid antibiotics, you can use it to give her water as well. This may help keep her hydrated until you get her to the vet. If you insert it between the teeth just after the canines and push the water in, she might take a bit of it. You can mix Kayro or honey with the water too -- although Kayro might be a better choice; I know you're not supposed to give honey to human children for some period of time. If you have a wet food she usually eats, you can mix it with equal parts water and try to feed her this way. If she throws up and/or has diarreah and is really dehydrated, call the 24 hour hotline if your vet has one. Good luck and I hope she feels better!

Actually she's fine now! She decided to eat around 5pm yesterday and wolfed down a bowl of food! I had tried everything during the day, she wouldn't touch wet food at all. She ate some peanut butter and some Nutrical and then some of a bacon treat that our office mate had for her puppy (who shares our space each day and is Gracie's best friend!) during the day but finally hit the food bowl and didn't stop. She's back to being her playful little self this morning!!!!
