My Lil Man! Donating Member | Itchy Baby?? I dont know if this is something normal yorkies do or not but Reeses will lick and lick and lick at night before we go to bed. This morning I woke up at 3:30am and he was licking when I got him out of his bed and put him up on my bed his little feet were soaked from where he had been licking. I dont know if it itches or what. Im probably gonna try giving him a bath tonight...do I need to get any kind of anti-itch shampoo or anything special? He has always been a licker, if you try to stop him from licking his feet and put your hand in front of him he will lick your hand until you move it. Lol. But this is the first time he has ever woke me up licking. I got him in the bed with me and rubbed his feet and told him to go to sleep and he did. Just wondering what the deal could be. Also...I have noticed he scratches under one of his armpits alot. I used to think it was a sign of aggravation b/c he would only do it when he wanted a toy that one of my parents dog had, or food or something that I had and wouldnt give to him. Lol. But I noticed a couple days ago him just sittin there diggin. He doesnt have fleas that I know of...I use frontline and so far havent seen any on him. Sorry this is long, I just feel bad for the itchy lil fella and wondering if there is something I can do. Thanks!! |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Paw licking/biting is a hallmark of allergies. Oftentimes, it's a food allergy, but it could be environmental too. What are you feeding?

My Lil Man! Donating Member | I feed him the Natural Balance Potato and Duck formula. It says on the bag "Allergy Formula" so that is why I never really figured it would be allergies. But not really sure. Ive read that it could be boredom :eek Im gonna play with him til he wont play no more tonight and see if he still goes to bed licking. Lol. |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | This time of year, it's hard to tell with all of the seasonal crapola going on...but, one kibble I'm really liking for an allergy option is Wellness Core Ocean - bc it's a fish based kibble. One thing I really don't like about most allergy kibbles is that they are really are too low in protein (usually 21%) - and this isn't that great long term. Wellness OC is in the 30s and full of nice ingredients - but at the same time, they didn't PLOW it full of a ton of ingredients either. Fish can be a miracle for some doggies.

My Lil Man! Donating Member | Thank you so much! I will have to be sure and check this food out. I was goin to try the new Merrick food...Before Grain but none of my local pet stores have it...or if they will have it they just dont yet. I emailed Merrick to ask for a sample but I dont know if they will be able to or not. I sure hope so! Do our babies usually like fishy stuff? I have always thought of cats gettin the fishy stuff and never really thought about our babies liking it. Lol. |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Oh, yes! When I fed kibble, I fed Orijen for awhile (GREAT kibble) and they went BONKERS for it. When I homecooked, I'd make a lot of fish and again, crazy for it. Fish is a very good protein for them, especially for allergy dogs. If you ever make fish at home, make a bit for your baby, but without seasoning and give him some - I bet he'll gobble it right up!

| I just got back from the vet tonight and she said that allergies were really bad this year... Deegan had allergies last year, but this year he's not bothered by them. But I'm not questioning it...

My Lil Man! Donating Member | I felt so bad for Reeses last night. I went and bought some oatmeal & baking soda shampoo and some oatmeal & baking soda conditioner along with some kind of anti-itch rinse that you lather them up in after shampoo and conditioner leave on for 3 min and rinse well. I also bought him some Wellness Super5Mix its the blue bag...the fishy one. He wasnt very interested in the food last night but of course I did also walk in with a philly cheesesteak sub from subway so his nose smelled something better! LOL. Oh I felt awful tho b/c he hasnt had any fleas and when I washed him last night I got like 5 fleas off of him!! His back right above his tail he has a really bad itchy spot..I noticed it was really red and when you rub a brush lightly across it he just quivers like it feels soooo good. Then I noticed he has some pinky spots on his belly side at his booty and on his back leg he has a small lil raw spot where it looks like he may have been doin some flea biting and got his wittle skin. Oh my gosh I feel soo bad. I have never had a flea problem with him and I brush him out really good every other night and never noticed any and with the frontline I never dreamed he would have any fleas but he did. I gave him a tiny dose of Benadryl this morning...so hopefully it will keep the itchyness down today. Bless his poor wittle heart. After all that I got him a bully stick and gave to him last night for bein such a good lil man while we went thru all that bathing ordeal. Hopefully we can nip this in the bud!! |
