YT Addict | whats wrong with odie he has bloody and pussy scratches/sores all over. im pretty sure its from having "hot spots" where he has just scratched that mess out of himself... but hes acting so weird lately.... doesnt want to play - which is SO unlike him isnt eating or drinking as much as usual will NOT go outside - usually he begs at the door ALL day wanting to get out and run and he just looks out the door but wont actually go hes shakey when getting a bath - has never done that before ? wants to lay around and sleep all the time and in unlikely places - places he has NEVER even layed in before...my closet, my parents room... sometimes out of nowhere i notice hes panting very heavily and he hasnt done anything and i KNOW that he needs to go to the vet but i have NO MONEY as of right now, but next week i will more than likely be able to take him... but has anyones babies ever experienced this?! other than the vet is there anything i can do for him until i can take him.... |

| Uhh that doesn't sound good at ALL. I would be getting him to the vet and putting it on a credit card ASAP.

| Well, all the symptoms you describe COULD just be his reaction to the hot spots or there may be an underlying cause. In any case, you can treat the symptoms until you find out more. If he's not playing so much, of course he won't be as hungry or thirsty. His not wanting to go out could be that the sun irritates the hot spots. If he has any that are in a place that rubs when he walks, he would react by just lying around. In other words, he may be just coping the best he can. There's a hot spot relief spray that PetSmart sells that works well to ease their discomfort though it's non-medicated. I believe it's mostly aloe vera and chamomille based. If he gets some relief, he's less likely to tear himself up so much. The vet could give you something better (like Gentimicin) but the non medicated works pretty well. You could also try giving him a bath in an oatmeal based shampoo and, if you have some anti-bacterial cream, put that on the really worst spots. With the bath, don't let the water be too warm.. just lukewarm. Also, try keeping him combed out so he'll get some air flow over his skin. I hope it's 'just hotspots' but they can get really bad quickly so try what you can to help him along for now. If you don't get results, of course you should see the vet about this. Good luck with him; he must be miserable. |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | If there is PUS, that can often indicate infection. I am a bit scared for your baby, actually, and I DO think you need to take him in, asap. Are these all over? Is it hives? There is also a deadly dog flu going around. Either way, the symptoms you're describing really concern me due to the fact that he is hiding/isolating - which animals normally only do when they really ARE sick. PLEASE take him in.
