Well, all the symptoms you describe COULD just be his reaction to the hot spots or there may be an underlying cause. In any case, you can treat the symptoms until you find out more. If he's not playing so much, of course he won't be as hungry or thirsty. His not wanting to go out could be that the sun irritates the hot spots. If he has any that are in a place that rubs when he walks, he would react by just lying around. In other words, he may be just coping the best he can. There's a hot spot relief spray that PetSmart sells that works well to ease their discomfort though it's non-medicated. I believe it's mostly aloe vera and chamomille based. If he gets some relief, he's less likely to tear himself up so much. The vet could give you something better (like Gentimicin) but the non medicated works pretty well. You could also try giving him a bath in an oatmeal based shampoo and, if you have some anti-bacterial cream, put that on the really worst spots. With the bath, don't let the water be too warm.. just lukewarm. Also, try keeping him combed out so he'll get some air flow over his skin. I hope it's 'just hotspots' but they can get really bad quickly so try what you can to help him along for now. If you don't get results, of course you should see the vet about this. Good luck with him; he must be miserable. |
