Kibbles such as Orijen use high quality protein which is a great, species-appropriate diet. Hope that helps. Last edited by AMD; 07-29-2009 at 08:45 AM. | |

| There's tons of threads on protein on YT. It's really just a matter of opinion. The only reason I'm not feeding a high protein food is because Jackson's not really what I would call extremely active. He's a fairly laid back dog and I just didn't feel comfortable feeding him such a high protein food. However, I don't think there's anything wrong with the high protein foods at all and even tried a few. Jackson didn't seem interested in the Orijen for some reason. He's currently on Innova regular which is 24% protein and he does well on it. If you want a grain-free, you could go with Merrick's Before Grain line. Jackson loved it and it's 32% protein so it's less than the others. The only reason I switched is because of price and it's easier for me to get Innova than BG.

Bonnie thanks so much for recommending the Taste of the Wild's Pacific Stream formula. I checked their website for store locations and there is one right by my house that carries it. I'm going to get it tonight and start Cosmo on it tomorrow gradually since I know he has a sensitive tummy. It was also on sale for about $8.99 for a 5# bag.

| Jackson tried Taste of the Wild the other day.. the Bison one. He absolutely loved it. He was eating the kibbles like treats when I handed them to him, which amazed me. I had sample bags that I gave him the other day. The ONLY things that scare me away from TOTW (and maybe I'm being WAY over paranoid, lol) is that I've read a lot of stories online about their dogs being fine on it for 2-3 months and then having lots of stomach issues and diarrhea. Also, that it's made at Diamond food plant. But... that's just stuff I've read on this site. And I still suggest the food to people and I, myself, am considering using it along with the Innova that Jackson eats now since he seemed to love it so much.
