High protein diets are species-appropriate, as Ann mentioned. Dogs are carnivores so they are designed to digest a high content of meat, which is protein. As mentioned, it is important that the protein come from animal sources bc plant proteins are far less digestible than meat proteins in the short digestive systems of dogs. Unless your dog has kidney, liver or pancreas disease, too much protein is not a concern.

Kibbles such as Orijen use high quality protein which is a great, species-appropriate diet.
