| He will be groggy for most of the day. be glad he is groggy.. I know when mine started coming out of it, they were hurting. Sunnie is a tough little guy and he cried out everytime he tried to move the first night. I had to put both him and Beamer (who was nuetered at the same time) in an x-pen to keep them from trying to move around much and to keep the other dogs from disturbing them. Hopefully your vet has/will give you some pain meds for him. Mine only needed them for about 1 1/2 days.

| My vet agrees with giving no medication. She feels a dog is less likely to try to overdo things or be too active if he is able to feel the pain-means less chance of stitches letting go. Ziggy was neutered this time last year and was very groggy when we picked him up. He was a very good boy and asked to go pee as soon as we got home and peed the most he's ever. I'm pretty sure they did not take him out to pee all day at the vet's. He slept all night and most of the next day, showed interest in his food by the second day and was almost back to normal by day three. I was horrified by his operation site as the whole area looked like a huge purple plum. I couldn't imagine it ever getting better but gradually over three weeks the swelling went down and today he has a very faint scar. Don't be too surprised about swelling. I must say I don't regret having it done-he has completely stopped humping all his toys but has retained his mischievous attitude-I was really worried his personality would change and it didn't. Good luck with your little man!

| When we had our Maltese neutered, he acted like nothing ever happened to him. He was raring to go right away. When we had Logan (our 3 pound, 11-month old Yorkie) neutered last month, he actually whined the rest of the day and the next. He was miserable and slept quite a bit. |

| I had my 2 pound Yorkie neutered and they gave him pain meds to bring home, probably because of his size (and he had teeth extracted). He was groggy as you described and acted off for the first day. HE SLEPT A LOT. I just held him on my lap (for hours) and let him sleep while I watched tv. |

| My vet is not a big believer in pain meds either , most dog will not even act like anything happed 4to6 hours after a neuter but if they are showing signs of pain labored breathing and shaking a vet should be contacted.

| That's the part that bothers me the most. I can understand being groggy, sleeping a lot and so on, but labored breathing? Call the vet now! |

I Love My Babies Donating Member | I hope he is doing much better. TJ was just neutered and had 2 teeth pulled on the 7th. He stayed right beside me and slept. If he wiggled, I took him outside to pee. He was groggy all day. He did not eat but he did drink a little. The next day was a little better. He did eat a little meat but he still wanted to be right with me and he slept on and off most of the day. On day three he was back to almost normal. Was I worried and second guessing my decision the first day.. You Bet! Am I glad I had it done? Yes. He will be better off for it. Good luck with your baby.. and give him lots of gentle hugs.

| Hot Rod was groggy and sleepy for about 2 1/2 days. I was given no pain meds and wished that I'd gotten some. He had 14 teeth taken out at the same time. He did eat and drink the same night. In about 3 days he was almost back to normal, at 4 and 5 days he was running around and trying to jump on the couch. I don't remember any labored breathing though.
