My vet agrees with giving no medication. She feels a dog is less likely to try to overdo things or be too active if he is able to feel the pain-means less chance of stitches letting go.

Ziggy was neutered this time last year and was very groggy when we picked him up. He was a very good boy and asked to go pee as soon as we got home and peed the most he's ever. I'm pretty sure they did not take him out to pee all day at the vet's.

He slept all night and most of the next day, showed interest in his food by the second day and was almost back to normal by day three.

I was horrified by his operation site as the whole area looked like a huge purple plum. I couldn't imagine it ever getting better but gradually over three weeks the swelling went down and today he has a very faint scar. Don't be too surprised about swelling. I must say I don't regret having it done-he has completely stopped humping all his toys but has retained his mischievous attitude-I was really worried his personality would change and it didn't.

Good luck with your little man!
