| Not sure. ![]() I guess you would use a food dehydrator or bake it and dry it in the oven. Maybe someone who make treats on YT would know? You just have to be very careful that they are completely dry and aren't going to go moldy. It would make me nervous but I know it can be done. As for Orijen, I posted a thread a few weeks ago about bone fragments in their food. If quality control can't catch that there is something wrong somewhere. I don't want it to sound like I think everyone needs to stop feeding kibble because if I had a big dog and couldn't afford to homecook I'd have to do the same. But I am so picky with Ellie that she will probably never go on it again (hopefully). There are always circumstances though where it might have to be used.

![]() I'm taking more like Petco is starting to care about what it offers to pet owners and maybe they will join the many other retailers and start carrying quality food for our little loved ones.. It's never to late to change your image and I have trust in Wellness that they would not jeopardize their product after they works so hard to establish a fine one. Lets give them a little credit.. We have many large retailers here on Long Island and they carry premium food lines (which put the little mom & pop stores out )so I believe that Petco needs to join them, so this could be a great start for everyone. | |

| Personally, I feel that adding Wellness as a choice at Petco is a great idea. Valentino and Lola have eaten and enjoyed Wellness for 2 years now and it is the only food Valentino can tolerate due to his allergies to Chicken and corn. I feel that by adding this choice to Petco, many consumers who were 1. not aware of the brand, or 2. unable to find it at a near-by location, are now able to make a good decision about a great quality food. Sadly some dog owners still buy their pet food at the local convenience store...maybe now their pets will have a chance at trying a food that is actually really healthy for them.

| Well, I know people don't want to hear this BUT: when I find out there are bone fragments in Orijen and there might have been a latex glove in a can of Canidae and there was hard plastic in their snap biscuits and Merrick has had three recalls within a few years over metal in the food and salmonella and nutro is causing vomiting and bloody diarrhea and possibly death I start to lose faith in more "holistic" or "natural" foods. Because of the apparent lack of quality control in these smaller companies (because it costs money), I hesitate to recommend any of them. And even the natural brands have ingredient problems. The claim is that they don't use things like ethoxyquin but they buy their meat from somewhere and the farm could've used it. It is almost impossible to tell with some companies. So, I have started leaning toward the newer products coming out from large companies. They aren't without problems...even serious ones (and the ingredients may come from China) but the quality control MAY (not a guarantee) be better. One of these is Science Diet Nature's Best. It isn't a great food but it is fair. If you only want to use holistic food I might consider California Natural (although Karma isn't 100% problem free either). I would also consider Natural Balance but I think there is some question about where it is made. During the recall the "garbage foods" were mostly the problem but now it seems that as more people use holistic food there are more complaints about it. So the food I've use is the one that I felt most comfortable with on that particular day.

| So true. With every food - even the holistic/natural brands, there are issues. I haven't heard anything bad about Ziwi Peak - yet. That doesn't mean there wont be a problem - but it seems like a good option. Its actually freeze dried meat bits rather then kibble... Ziwipeak Cuisine - Ziwipeak - Natural New Zealand Pet Nutrition I use it as treats for my dogs who go nuts for it. Its shaped like tiny bits of jerky and is extremely pungent, enticing for the finickiest of eaters. Might be worth a shot...

| Darn it! I just bought a big bag of Wellness Complete Health for my puppies today! I'm switching them from Maei (a local brand) to Wellness because I've heard so many good things about it. Then I read in the other posts about food allergies and found out yorkies have allergies to chicken.....and I bought the chicken flavor. lol.... Guess I'll change it to Orijen? Heard lots of good things about them...hope their kibbles are small and don't smell fishy because both my dogs will pick out the fishy bits and ignore them. |
