I would strongly encourage you to find a vet that you like and one that you trust. Ensure that they have a nice office staff that you also like.

The thing about it, is that once you find a vet that you trust, you can ring him up and tell the office staff what's going on, they can have the vet make a recommendation for you as to whether it is something he will need to be seen for, or something that you can remedy at home.

Also ask your vet for a 24 hour pet hospital they refer to and keep that number on hand. If it's after hours you can call that emergency line and speak with them.

Yorkie talk has a plethora of experienced Yorkie owners and breeders, but they are not veterinarians. If you are ever concerned about your dog's health, the first thing you should do is pick up that phone and call your vet. I have never had a vet mind that I called and asked whether or not to bring my dog in, and they don't always say I need to bring her in.

For instance - When Tashi ate chicken bones, I called the vet. They told me exactly what to look for that would mean I needed to come in. She exhibited one of those symptoms and I immediately brought her in.
