| lepto vaccine Hi all, This is now my third post. I hope I'm doing this right. I'm unsure if I should have my little Gracie have the lepto shot. I have read that they are not good for small yoirkies. Gracie is 4.5lbs. We live in the country and she has a real big fenced in back yard so she is out alot with her brother Jax and her sister Sophie. I have heard awful stories about yorkies having this vaccine. Any imput Thanks........................... |

| If you look in the Health and Diet section or do a search for Lepto, you'll find lots of good answers!

| Lepto is one of the worst vaccines for reported adverse effects...It's not very effective nor does it last long....I would not do it.... http://www.weim.net/emberweims/Vaccine.html http://www.petresource.com/Articles%.../texas_vet.htm

| I would not do it !! I have been..... I have been around dogs all my life. I breed and raise chihuahuas. I was informed many, many years ago, from a very reputable old time show breeder--DO NOT GIVE THE LEPTO to any tiny toy dogs. This is the worse of all vaccines. Before-- I knew this info. I had one tiny female chi--dame near die from this LEPTO. Her face swelled then her air way---it was a mess. I rushed her to the vet --we saved this girl. My personal opion, I will never, ever give this to the tiny breeds again. I think --just keeping them on a high end diet and supplements. Giving all required vaccines but LEPTO, I think the risk is low. My input.... thanks |

| Lepto We do not administer lepto at all..... We advise all of our clients against it as does my vet....He basically told me it is very rare for a toy dog to even be exposted to the virus so there really is no need for it.... It was really developed for working field dogs.... I've seen some really bad reactions to it, so I would visit the other post just to be informed, but blanketly we just don't give it at all..... |

| I really depends on if the disease is bad in your area, or you live on a farm or by water and if your vet pressures you to get it. Since my Yorkie went into shock and collapsed after vaccines and it was most probably this one, I would have to be pretty convinced that any future Yorkies of mine need it to give it. And the vet will probably bring up that it can be transferred to humans but it seems that the dog can still carry the disease even with the vaccine (maybe one vaccine is better than another but I don't know).
