Lepto is the one vaccination I don't ever give my dogs, but you need to check with your vet. If there is no lepto in your area, you're OK, but if there is lepto in the area, the vaccination is necessary.
Lepto is one canine disease that people can get, so you don't want to take chances if lepto is in your area. My vet will let me know immediately if even a suspected case of lepto shows up in our area and I will get my dogs vaccinated. I am very attentive to lepto information. Twenty years ago, when my older son was stationed in Puerto Rico in the Coast Guard, he got lepto from a beach bum dog that he adopted. There are no vaccination laws in Puerto Rico. It was not fun and he got written up in some medical journals. He spent three weeks in the hospital. The doctors said it was 98% fatal to humans. I think they have more advanced treatment now, but you don't want to get lepto, believe me! This is one vaccination that you need to be informed about and give your attention.
