| BACK FROM THE VET.... Q's! okay I took Shelby in for his 2nd set of shots and when I was there his dry skin issue was adressed. I recently changed his food to DVP potato and duck and the vet gave me(actually bought$$) ResiCORT made by Virbac leave on lotion with hydrocortisone to apply to the skin.(He has flaky dry skin and it looks like lice in his coat...ughhh)only in certain spots though its not all over the coat. She recommended that next time I go to use a sulfur lime dip that is used for mange and scabies because it will make the dry layer come off and will make his skin super soft. The only down side is that it stinks like rotten eggs and it is a leave in. HAS ANYONE HEARD OF DOING THIS?????????????? |

| I would only use those dips if there was a good reason to (if Ellie had some type of mite or lice). I wouldn't 'use it just to get rid of dry skin since they aren't that safe in my opinion.

| I'd like to find out about this myself. Hot Rod itches all the time and his ears are always peeling it looks like! Poor thing sometimes buries his head on the floor and scratches both ears with both is paws! He is at the vets as we speak to be neutered and she said that she will take a close look at his skin to try and figure out what is going on.

| Could this be a grooming issue (either separately or in combination with diet)? How often do you bathe him and what shampoo, conditioners do you use?

| I've been using the lime sulfur dip on Sully on and off, pretty much since we got him in September. He had ringworm when we got him, then we treated it, and it flared up again. The dip really is very stinky. Sad to say, I've kind of gotten used to the smell though! It is a leave-in, where you need to let it air dry and you also have to keep your furbaby from licking any of its fur during that time. If you have any questions on using it, please let me know!

| I use a puppy shampoo. Hartz puppy groomers choice tearless..... The people who I got him from were bathing him with a flea and tick shampoo and Im thinking that could have caused dry skin too because he is only 9 weeks and I have not yet seen a flea shampoo for puppies under 12 weeks. Mine is 9 weeksold by the way. I dont know. I have bought an oatmeal flea shampoo but it says for 12 weeks and older so Im just waiting. I hear oatmeal is good for their skin. |

| It takes up to 60 days after a food change to see the results. I'd give it 6 more weeks to decide whether it was the food or not...

| I actually thought using the dip dried his skin out more. This could be because it was winter, but his skin was definitely dry like the day after a bath with the dip. If you have to use it, I would recommend using it in a room that is well-ventilated or a room where you can open the window!

| Fish oil and vitamin E can work well for dry skin but I don't know if your pup is too young. I don't think so...
