Someone Please Help With Question

Ok, I am not a vet so I can only tell you what my vet has said and what I would do if she were my baby. I would keep offering the food that she was already on (Chicken Soup)...whether it was dry or wet...whichever she seemed to have more interest in. I would also give her boiled chiken ad rice. I probably would try to keep her on one food because her little tummy has been so upset. I would also add a little bit of Karo to her water if she didn't seem to be eating enough. I would also call around to see what other vet's take is on Lepto for a Yorkie puppy.

Personally if it were my gal, I'd stop messing with her food all together and just keep her on boiled chicken and rice until things settle with her and her tummy issues and bloody BM's. Switching her food so many times is going to do nothing but cause her lil tummy more stress. I know it's so hard to know the right thing to do when your vet is telling you one thing and others are telling you even more things. I'd give her some time on the rice and chicken and let her be on that, if things settle down and get back to normal for her, then SLOWLY introduce her regular food back in at very little amounts at a time. When she is all switched back over to her regular food and all is well, leave her like that for a bit and then find a food you know you approve of and then slowly switch her over to that by adding a lil in to her regular food and then eventually lessening the amount of her old food until the change is complete. But as for right now, I wouldn't give her anything except the chicken and rice, her tummy really does need a rest after all she's been through. As for that vet, I wouldn't take another one of my animals back to him, ANY vet should know better than to give an animal shots that are having bloody stool issues and they should also know better than to advise a parent of a patient to give their furkid hamburger! And to tell you the Gods honest truth, I wouldn't let ANYONE give her another shot for vaccines until she is COMPLETELY over all of this and her system has had a good rest and time to build itself back up. My heart goes out to you so much as I went through something very simular to this with Maggy May and her brother Gibbs, but we ended up losing Gibbs after being sent home with him from the Emergency vets with an all clear bill of health. Listen to your gut, obviously you aren't comfy with what your vet is telling you or you wouldn't be here asking us if what the vet has told you sounds right. I'd seriously find another vet, this isn't even my furkid and I'd like to set him straight on a thing or two just from what hes done and told you to do with concerning your furbaby. Many prayers going up for you and your lil one.

I second what TammyJM has said about the Kayro syrup as well, with all she's been through, I'd certainly keep the kayro syrup in her water.

I'm back from my Wal-mart run. The only readily available canned food I recommend for puppies is canned Pedigree Lamb and Rice Puppy. It is easy to digest. What ever you do still give her a little of the plain canned pumpkin with a tiny bit of karo syrup mixed in it. It will work wonders and cannot hurt her. It will help her tummy. Just put a tiny bit on your finger and put it in her mouth.

First, please switch vets before the next set of shots...

Now I didn't remember that she had bloody stools when I said no A/D. If the vet thinks it will help then that's fine.

If she were mine I would pull all food and feed white meat chicken and white rice (not hamburger).

Shots should be given every 3-4 weeks, not every 2.
She should have started at 8 or 9 weeks and get three rounds of DHPP (some people say two but most vets say three).

Blood in the stool of a pup is never okay. A few days is 4 or 5 and that is too long without a diagnosis.

This vet says she has hypo and didn't do a glucose test, gave lepto and said it couldn't have been a reaction to it, is not wanting you to search on the internet and giving vaccines every 2 weeks. It would have to be an emergency before I would consider going to him.

You have every right to study online. I do all the time and Ellie's vet doesn't have a bit of problem with it. Some vets like when you study because it is easier to explain things to you and you know your dog best...

I did not notice until after posting that Sophie was my yorkies name that your Sophie passed in 2007. I am so, so, sorry.

The breeder I got her from gave me her health certificate stating that she had shots when she was 6-weeks old, and 9-weeks old. I took her to the vet at 12-weeks old to get her 12 week shots. The vet gave her DHLP/Parvo/Corona & Bordetella. He did Fecal test, and checked for coccidia and was neg. I have to bring her back in two-weeks for more shots, which I contacted another vets office and they said, do not bring her in for more shots in two weeks. There is no reason for more shots if she had these shots already. Is he trying to make unnecessary money off me? I am so confused and upset at the whole situation. I am going to be changing vets. Thanks

I know ALOT of people on here say no to the Lepto vaccine for Yorkies but I discussed this at length with my vet, who happens to be about 50yrs old, and he strongly suggested that Tessa get the vaccine especially for this area. He also strongly suggested that Coronavirus vaccine as well. These are the shots she got at her 4mth shots: Leptospira, Parainfluenza, CAV2-Hepatitis, Coronavirus, Parvovirus, distemper and Rabies.
The deworming was done at 6wks and 12wks.

Some vets do give four sets but they would give them at maybe 6, 9, 12 and 16 weeks. Two weeks apart is not far enough apart in my opinion. Three shots is the maximum needed but because of maternal antibody interference (and more potential for side effects), those three sets shouldn't be started so young...

I am sorry for not getting back to you sooner. She is doing much better. Her stools are soft, but have texture to them now. I have not noticed anymore blood/mucous in her stool either. She is eating well. I am giving her Karo-Syrup once a day off of my finger. I am so relieved. I thought she was going to die. Thank you so much again for all of your help and support!
