If lepto is a minimal concern in your area then it absolutely should not be given. It is a huge concern here, so some vets give it...

They should have her out of the crisis in less than 15 minutes...I would want to know if she is okay now...not at 3.

Holding good thoughts for your baby!!! please keep us posted here!!! and my girls dont get Lepto,, yet the groomer i tried to take them to demanded it at that animal hospital,, so,,we came home and will just learn to groom here,, so much i've read on the Lepto vaccine was scary to me,, I wish you only the best!

I did not check her gums. I picked her up from the vet and she was fine as could be when I got there. The vet blamed her problem on hypoglycemia (sp), I have had her for a few weeks now and never had an attack. The breeder as well said she never had a hypoglycemia episode either. I told the vet that I was told that the L shot causes reactions in yorkies and he denied it. He said my puppy is younger than what I was told by the breeder and my puppy was having a hypoglycemia attack. I do not know, but VERY grateful nothing happened to her.

Hi there. Glad your baby is okay. Read your thread. Maybe you want to be careful the next time your puppy gets another vaccination or go to another vet that will discuss the possibility of it really being the vaccine over with you.

That is so good to hear.
Now that it is over I will say (I know you asked before but I didn't want to scare you) that any vaccine can kill any animal. The lepto vaccine in particular has killed several Yorkies.

I am glad that she is feeling better! I am surprised that your vet denied that the Lepto is a problem for Yorkies. When my breeder sent Livi to us, she specificially said, "NO LEPTO!" She even wrote what she would need (shot-wise) and also wrote, no Lepto on the paper. I took this with me to give to our vet and as she read it, she even said, "I NEVER give Lepto to a Yorkie puppy".

I am just happy to hear that your puppy is better.

My puppy is going to get her shots Tuesday. Should she not have Lepto. What is it for anyway? Now I am really scared.

I am glad your baby is ok. You must have been a mess. I know I would have been.

Thank you for not scaring me, because had you told me she could die, I would have dropped to the floor! I was already hysterical to say the least. I am thanking God she is ok ans so glad I found this website. I know it was the shot and he did not want to tell me so. The minute I called the vet and told them her symptoms they said bring her in right away. And I know they treated her with something because she was COMPLETELY back to normal.

Thank you and I will NEVER give her that shot again. That episode grew me a few new gray hairs!

Did you get charged for this treatment?
If you got charged then whatever they used should be on your receipt.
If you didn't get charged then they are (by default) saying it was their fault...

It depends how bad it is in your part of the country.
Leptosporosis is a bacteria that effects the liver, kidneys and heart. It can be transferred to humans (but just because the dog gets the vaccine doesn't mean they can't give it to you). There are so many strains of it. In most places it is by far not necessary. You can type "lepto" into the search.

Just curious about the vets statement about her age. Did you get her from a local breeder or was she shipped in. About how much does she weigh? There was a breeder here in Texas that was selling very young pups and passing them off as older. She would tell people the pup is 1 lbs at 12 weeks but the pups were more like 4 or 5 weeks old (they did not even have teeth yet), the lady also lied to people about them having papers. Sad, sad, sad.

Yes, I was charged $35.00 on top of the $165.00 for her shots, ear, and stomach medicine. On the statement it does not specifie what meds were given, but does say medicine-4, whatever that means. He gave me a can of puppy food called Prescription Diet A/D and told me to feed her a teaspoon every hour.
