I looked online about chi's eating their poop, and thats what I came up with. Pineapples It's great because I get a chance to eat pineapples too. I never ever got around to eating them. | |

| Just in the last two days my Zoey, 16 months old, has had "poopy" breath. I haven't seen her actually eat any of her poops but she's burping a LOT and it smells like poo. YUK!! I'm thrilled I found all of this info, I've got pineapples in the fridge and am going to feed her some tonight! I'll report back on the progress! Wish me luck!

| I think your yorkie is after the undigested food. Scooter did this when he was very young........fortunately it didn't last long and he outgrew it. There are things you can buy to put in their food that supposedly stops them from eating their poop. Good luck!

| I think they learn it from their moms cuz their moms eat their poop when they were puppies. I've tried using everything but it doesn't help! I asked my vet and he says to just try to clean it up right away. I talked with other breeders and they said eventually, the puppy grows out of it.... Mine finally did! |

| Is your pup being trained to go outside? Walk the pup on a leash and clean up immediately and this will solve the problem. Good luck! I believe that the pups outgrow this behavior. |

| We had two dogs that did this too as puppies and we were told it was a dietary thing. That they were lacking certain nutrients. My mom cooked fresh chicken livers (cooked in a saucepan of water) and every night for a month she mixed it in with the other food including the juice. Don't know if they just outgrew the phase or if the extra nutrients did the trick, but neither one of them did it again once we changed the diet. We only give the livers once a month or on occasion because it is high in fat. I also know that many folks disagree with giving cooked liver, but it has always been a positive food source for our dogs and our Vets over the years would tell us not to change a thing because they were always very healthy dogs. *knock on wood* I agree though....poop eating is such a nasty habit. Oh and we also tried the hot sauce for one of our dogs...it truly backfired...the silly girl actually LIKED it! |

| Hi, just this morning I saw little gina eat her poop. She does this off and on. She will be one year old this May 17th. Now that I have read the entries on this subject here, it has qualmed my nerves. I pick up the poop in the middle of the night, morning and afternoon. Just hope gina will outgrow this. Boobah my one year old, wont get near it. Boobah is the queen of cleanliness, and gina is the princess, well I wont say anything....LOL!!!!

| YT 500 Club Member | This was on Me or the Dog yesterday. They suggested that the food was not digesting and went right through the dog, making it smell like food. Therefore they needed to change to a better quality food. Also, they suggested they add pineapple, as it would taste bad when it came out the other end. Keeping the dog in sight when he goes and also keeping the area clean at all times was also suggested,

| Poop eating starts when the pups mom stops cleaning up after them, generally because they start eating on their own. However the pups when lacking in certain nutrients will eat their poop. Put the pup on a high fiber diet and give fresh pineapple. The pineapple makes the poop smell terrible to them. |

I give her a few chunks every couple of days and she's had no "poopy" breath whatsoever!! In fact this weekend we were playing outside and she was sniffing around. She saw some older poops, went to it, sniffed and bolted! Yay!!

| Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Wylie had the problem for awhile - we bought Solid Gold's S.E.P. (stop eating poop) - used it for about a month - worked great. I think Only Natural Pet sells it. Amazon too. Also, sometimes switching to a premium food helps - if you're not already on one. Doesn't always help, but sometimes.
