My yorkie eats her poop!!!!!!! i dont know what to do!!!! i feel like that might be bad for her if she keeps doing that!! she has not done that before, she is 4 months now and ever since a couple of days ago i have been noticing that right after she poops she eats her stool dont know what to do at this point, Why do you think this is happening ? Will her own feces affect her bad if she eats it ? what can i do so she can stop doing it ? i feed her enough i dont see why she would :shocked7q eat her own poop unless she was starving and she is not any ideas , comments? |

I had a "poo eater" too....but he has outgrown that nasty habit:) Hubby used to make fun of Gage and pick on me whenever he did it. I read posts here and read where others had the same issue and their furbaby outgrew it. He was just over a year old when he stopped. Now I have the last laugh on hubby has his black lab (who is now a year old) is a poo eater - told him that was for making fun of Gage...LOL!! Best of luck to you. |
Im clueless I have not ran into that yet but I know you will get support here! |

it is said that dogs eat their poop for two reasons. 1) they are trying to keep their territory/house/area clean. This is more common in females. Some dogs, instead of dirtying their yard, will decide to poop in the neighbors yard. 2) they are lacking a type of nutrient but i have no idea how eating poop fixes that. there are a few ways to break the habit. 1) pick up the poop right away. 2) put her on a leash to go outside to potty and when she goes to turn around and eat it give her a little tug and tell her no or leave it, then walk her away. 3) put something in her food to make the poop taste bad (deter, forbid). 4) put something on the poop to make it taste bad (meat tenderizor, hot sauce, anything that tastes bad). |

I want to welcome you to yt. I didn't have that problem with Murfee but I have seen several threads on here about something you can sprinkle on their food that makes them stop that habit. Maybe you can do a search...but I can't help with that either 'cause I am such a computer dummy:D |

I don't know if this means anything but when I switched Samson from dry food to only wet food he stopped eating his poo. I can't swear by it because I always watched him like a hawk and picked up asap and that may have stopped him. Or he just may have grown out of it (he's 5 and half months). But I had him on all wet for about 2 weeks (prior I did both and he still ate it) and one day I noticed that I wasn't having to be so aggressive on removing his poo because he wasn't interested anymore. Maybe it's a combination of everything but I'm just glad it stopped!! |

Sometime ago there was a thread about this very problem and a poster suggested changing brand of kibble. I did that and my poo-eater has stopped. Don't know if it is a coincidence or if it actually worked. I'm just happy it has stopped.:D Cocoa is a puppy-mill doggie who was in horrible physical shape when we got her. Her mouth was so infected that we believe that the only way she survived was to eat the poo from other dogs. No way could she have eaten the dry kibble the nasty woman was feeding. Joanne :aimeeyork :aimeeyork :aimeeyork :dog: |
