| Would You Use These Food Bowls?? I found these adorable ceramic food/water bowls in the pet section at Wal-Mart. They were the only two left so I just had to have them. Anyway, I thought they were cute and was so excited to get them home to the fur babies that I didn't pay attention to where they were made. Yep....you guessed it, China. Whatcha guys think....take them back? Tammy |

| Those bowls are very nice! If you decide not to use them for dog bowls put a plant in them. They are really cute!

They have several of another style (which was also SUPER cute), but only two of the polka dots. My hubby rolled his eyes when I said that Livi and Harley needed these. LOL!! Tammy Last edited by TammyJM; 02-15-2008 at 07:59 AM. | |

| I have some cute ceramic food/water bowls from Walmart that I love. They're painted and glazed all over so I really don't think they can be harmful.

| Glazed ceramic from Mexico can have lead in it, probably the same for China. I would be careful. I have some cute ceramic dishes for my dogs, but I got a stainless steel bowl that fits inside them. It works great and I don't have to wonder if they are getting lead in their water or food. The ceramic also helps the stainless steel bowl not tip over. They still have the cuteness of the ceramic, but the safety of the stainless steel. You might try it, the bowls you got are really cute!

| I have 2 really cute ceramic bowls I got at Walmart too, so I did some research yesterday and the day before b/c I started getting worried about them. Chicago Fox news did a story on lead in pet's toys and a ceramic pet dish. I emailed them and watched the video b/c in my search, someone had mentioned that the bowl was from Walmart and had a "name' painted in the bottom of the bowl. MY bowls have "Bone Appetit" painted in the bottom of them. The story was on the news Nov. 27th. What I saw was nothing like the bowls I got. And in most of the reading I did, the ceramic bowls if they DID have lead in them would only be a concern if the dish was chipped or broken and the dog ingested the broken pieces. I feel relatively safe using these bowls now, and I'm glad b/c they're so cute. I'll try to take a photo and post them. Here's the email that was sent to me: You can watch the story on our website, myfoxchicago.com. Type the words lead pet dish into the search bar. A link to the story will come up. Best wishes from Fox News Chicago

| It's b/c they're notorious for using lead-based paints and other toxins in their manufacturing. It was a huge deal not too long ago about children's toys from China that were found to have high amounts of toxins in them and so they thought to start testing pet toys/dishes. Not a dumb question at all.

| Maddie and Libby have bowls exactly like that! I think they are so adorable. I first saw one at my sister's house and had to go get them for mine. I don't use them for water, just the food. When I bought mine, they were the last to polka dot ones! LOL

| Here's the bowls I got~ and they were even on sale! I got the first one for $4.99 and a couple of days later decided to get the last one; it was on sale for $2.99! What a deal! Not exactly the colors I'd choose, but they're cute! Oh, I also have a couple of dishes I used to use for my cats that look suspiciously like the one they showed in that video...they're going in the trash; havent' used them for years anyway!
