| Double teeth? Help. Sarge got fixed on Friday and last ngiht I noticed he has double canine's on the bottom. I was under the impression that the vet was supposed to check for this when he was getting fixed, but apparently, she didn't. What do I do? It seems to be bothering him, he wants to chew on everything, and he's not one to chew, and he's also rubbing his face a lot. Should I get it pulled or see if it will come out on its own? I can't get a good look at it to see if its loose, in fact I can't even tell which one is the baby tooth, they're both white as can be. Any advice?

Luvs Lulu Donating Member | Right now it would not be the best thing to put him under again for a bit. Maybe a couple months. Everytime we put these little guys under you can run into problems. Most pups will continue teething a bit past a year old. So keep an eye on them and give him lots of tough things to chew in order to maybe loosen them up and get them to drop on their own.

| Yea, I'm pretty sure I even discussed it with her when he was around 4 months old at a regular vaccination visit. I believe she told me thats how it was going to happen. UGh, i'm just mad now. I just wish I could yank it out for him.

| I agree with lots of chew toys and maybe he will let you wiggle them when you are giving him treats. Do you play tug-o-war with him? |

The only thing you can do now is get him chewing in hopes of soothing some of the issues he has and to be able to loosen them up.

| baby teeth How old is your baby?? Most vets in my area will not automatically pull baby teeth if not requested by you. My Feather has two complete sets of teeth and she 9 1/2 months old. I so hope she loses some of them so they don't all have to be pulled when I finally get the courage to have her spayed. |

| I have only had one out of all of mine that retained some baby teeth and she isn't my breeding. So, I have been very fortunate in that way. i recently has three caniness pulled from my show girl. Our vets around here don't just automatically do it. They have to be told. |

| Ginger will be 6 mos this Thursday..She was spayed 2 weeks ago..I have noticed she's lost at least 4 teeth in the last week 1/2..well, when my hubby took her in last Sat. to have her stitches taken out, I told him to ask the vet about her teeth, as nothing was ever said about taking any out etc. He told my hubby that you need to give it time, up until a year, that they should come out on their own..I know Fritz was late losing his...he didn't have any of his pulled when he went in at 5 1/2 mos. to be neutered. .it seems like the vets are waiting longer these days to see if they'll come out on their own first |

Luvs Lulu Donating Member | The vet had said that he would pull the doubles that were there....then leave the other baby in place so they could hold the space until the big boy tooth came in.

| My puppies both had retained baby teeth at 6 mos. I got them neutered at 5 months, so their adult teeth hadn't really started coming in yet. My vets said to give them one more month. They are 8 mos. now, and he was right to wait. They came out on their own. I wiggled them when I brushed their teeth and played lots of tug-of-war. I don't know if its the best thing, but I tugged with them on a sock. They could really get a good grip on the sock to tug. I didn't let them have the sock alone though -- there can be too many loose threads if they start chewing. |

| [QUOTE=Bizzymammabee;1711817]Some of these vets are a bit suspect if you ask me. Just tell me that you are able to remember all the conversations you had in 2 months . |

Luvs Lulu Donating Member | [quote=Gazou;1711923]When I go to my vet he short hands what we spoke of that was important in that chart and he takes a quick look before we being our next round of talks. I appreciate and value that in a vet. I KNOW they can't remember what they spoke about due to the number of people they see but I still think just like my regular physician that he/she should familiarize themselves with our last visit and see what the reason is for the current one. That is the true sign of a good physician in my eyes.
