| This doesn't feel right!!! Maddie has acted weird about me touching her back ever since she got microchipped. She almost acts like it's painful, even a light touch...and she doesn't want me brushing her back, which she used to love. When I touch that spot, I can actually feel the chip, and it sort of moves around...of course I can't mess with it too much. All of mine are microchipped, and I can't feel any of others in their backs, and the spots aren't sensitive to the touch. Is this at all normal? Has anybody else experienced this? Do you think it's actually the chip hurting her? Or the memory of the chip going in that scares her when you touch that particular place? |

| Is the area red or swollen? The actual movement of the chip doesn't sound right to me. I can't even find it anymore on my bichon. It may have just moved during insertion. Anything. If it is nothing like the others, something is off.

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | I can feel Marcel's but not Wylie's chips. How long ago was she chipped? Scar tissue can sometimes be painful (adhesions can develop) - so I wonder if she developed excessive scar tissue. If it is red, swollen, and hot/warm (in add'n to the tenderness) - I would get it checked for infection. Otherwise, if it's recent - maybe wait a little bit???

| You will have no problem with migration if you follow the vets instructions. microchips are sealed with a special smooth coating. This coating, once in contact with body fluids and subcutaneous tissue, helps the microchip stay where you put it. A few chips do move out of place, I asked my vet and he informed me that once in a while it travels but not a lot, Refer your concern to your vet and show him the areas.

| Had both of mine microchipped last year. Rocky let out a horrible sound when he got chipped and Daisy didn't even budge. Rocky was bent out of shape for about two weeks and Daisy acted if nothing ever happened. We find that Rocky cannot deal with any type of discomfort and he does remind us of this from time to time. If Maddie is still feeling this way after 3-4 weeks you may want to take her back to the vet. If this was just done recently, then I'd chalk it up to low pain tolerance with a side of mood swing for sympathy. ;-) Last edited by girltime; 01-06-2008 at 01:00 PM. |
