| no grass for a year? Is is true that yorkies puppies should not go potty on the grass because they could get sick? I want to train my puppy to go outside by crate instead of using the puppy pad. She is still missing the pad and I would like to train her to go outside. She is just barely 4 months old. |

| I've never heard this before. Both of mine were trained outside and everything was ok. Maybe someone else has heard this too and can shed some more light on the issue.

| I have never heard of that either. My puppies have always gone outside to potty but only after all of their innoculations have been received. Maybe someone else has herd of this. |

| Maybe what you read or heard was in reference to parvo? It is recommended to not take a puppy outside until their vaccinations are complete and they aren't very susceptible to parvo and other diseases. It isn't the grass that is dangerous but diseases left behind from other dogs that might have pottied in that grass you put your puppy on. If you have a fenced-in backyard where no other dogs have been, it is unlikely your puppy would be exposed to parvo..and at 4 months it should have had all it's vaccinations by now. It should be fine to take your puppy outside to potty. You may still want to avoid areas (grass or no grass) exposed to unknown dogs though

| Ok- i can't remember the exact- but pretty close- my vet has told me for 30 years to never put pups on the ground- parvo can live in the ground, for years! Pups are not protected- untill all shots are given- and i think then they can still get it! You never know what dog- or other animal- has been in your yard, Rabbit, ect and you do not know if they are sick or not! I have heard him say this to anyone in his office that has a pup- do not put that pup down- in here- outside- or at home- do not put them on the ground! And I believe him!And I trust him- he has been a vet for over 50 years-and I will cry when he retires- even though he deserves to!He loves animals more than anyone I have ever met! |

| I never heard any of that. Murfee started going potty on the grass at about 10 weeks when we got him. Man, I learn something new on here every day.
