| tummy troubles Suddenly Paddington has developed a very sensitive tummy. All summer he was doing fine with Evangers wet food mixed with holistic blend dry food. then he developed really bad diarrhea out of nowhere about two months ago.(like little brown puddles...sorry if thats TMI) We went to the vet near my parents house where we were living at the time and his treatment worked well for about a week and then it came back. (all we fed him was boiled chicken and rice...though potentially one batch of rice had some oil in it b/c it was from a restaurant. (we were moving) We went to our regular vets office where the original owner of the clinic has returned. He is new to us but he is awesome. He did a thorough exam and put paddy on I/D. We followed his instructions on how to transition him from I/D to regular food but for some reason every now and again his poops are not good. I am wondering if the evangers is too rich for him now because he has not had dry food with it...just I/D and evangers supplemental (hunk of beef) I am also wondering when I will be able to transition him back to dry food. I don't want his little teeth to rot!! Any of you guys have a good food for doggies with sensitive tummies or know how to transition from I/D to dry food. I'm calling the vet again tomorrow to get his method but just wondering if you guys have any experience with this. Thanks.

| Did your vet run any tests? I half wonder if baby doesn't have irritable bowel syndrome or something similar. It sounds like you are giving him great food. Does the kibble have any grains in it? If so, you might try a brand without grains.

Yorkie Lover Donating Member | We struggled with our Magic from the time she was little to about 1 1/2 years old with a sensative tummy. We went through the I/D routine and she would get back to dry food and would last a short time and start having problems again. We finally switched vets....and he put her on Purina DCO which is a dry food for pups with stomach problems (usually colitis).....While I am not to fond of the ingredients - it was a dry food and it worked great for Magic and after using that for about 6 months we have been able to transition her onto Natural Balance Sweet Potatoe & Fish (which is good for sensative tummies). We learned to move very slowly with changing foods with Magic because that would set off her sensative tummy. (Slowly being a period of over 2 weeks at times...starting with 5% new for 24 hours, then 10% new for 24 hours, etc.) We also stopped all treats. Make sure you vet has rulled out things like worms and giardia and such. Our vet told us that once their little tummies got "out of balance" that is was a slow process to get back that balance.....as the lining of their tummy can be very sensative. Good luck in finding a solution that works for you!

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | How old is he? Was his stool tested at least twice (giardia can hide like crazy)? And, what was his "treatment"? If it was Metro, that in itself can sometimes cause problems with digestion and other things. So, I guess first - is your long term goal to have him on kibble or to homecook? If it's kibble, I'd probably go with something that is not beef or chicken - but maybe Orijen 6-Fish or something with lamb or venison (he could have sensitivities to beef or chicken). If you want to homecook, you could do a whitefish based diet. I had to do this for Marcel - he had mushy/mucousy/bloody stools for 4 mths. and I finally consulted w/ a pet nutritionist (after $$$ at the vet) over the phone, got him on a whitefish diet and *voila* - 1.5 days later we had firm stools. Have you thought about raw at all? That is another option. I guess the best thing would be to first decide if you're willing to homecook or want to stay w/ kibble. Then, finding a clean, simple, quality kibble if that's the way you want to go... I didn't really help all that much - but I'd really like to! I know exactly how frustrating this is, so please don't hesitate to ask if you need more help. I really feel for your little guy.
