How old is he? Was his stool tested at least twice (giardia can hide like crazy)? And, what was his "treatment"? If it was Metro, that in itself can sometimes cause problems with digestion and other things.
So, I guess first - is your long term goal to have him on kibble or to homecook? If it's kibble, I'd probably go with something that is not beef or chicken - but maybe Orijen 6-Fish or something with lamb or venison (he could have sensitivities to beef or chicken). If you want to homecook, you could do a whitefish based diet. I had to do this for Marcel - he had mushy/mucousy/bloody stools for 4 mths. and I finally consulted w/ a pet nutritionist (after $$$ at the vet) over the phone, got him on a whitefish diet and *voila* - 1.5 days later we had firm stools.

Have you thought about raw at all? That is another option. I guess the best thing would be to first decide if you're willing to homecook or want to stay w/ kibble. Then, finding a clean, simple, quality kibble if that's the way you want to go...

I didn't really help all that much - but I'd really like to! I know exactly how frustrating this is, so please don't hesitate to ask if you need more help. I really feel for your little guy.
