Phantom Queen Morrigan Donating Member | gross... anal glands i've noticed morgan's butt hair has been messy lately and at first i didn't know why. Today i heard her licking at it and when i picked her up to investigate i noticed "the smell". dun dun dun.... so its her anal glands that have been bothering her... great... she's never had this problem before. So i put her up on the grooming table, put a glove on, grabbed some tissues and went to work. Luckily i was able to express them from the outside. Hopefully this is a one time deal and she won't have this problem anymore.

| I do my girls every time they get a bath. I just put them in the shower with the long hose and soak them down, express and then rinse them and the wall off! LOL!! then i shampoo them all really good and make sure to massage that area really well. I have never had a problem with them scooting or leaking this way! They don't know any different as it is part of their routine. |

| So far Bella only has it done when she is groomed! Being a nurse I have had my hands everywhere imaginable. I am afraid of hurting Bella though. |

| I adopted Bella a couple of months ago, (she is about 5 years old), and at her first vet appt they told me her anal glands were filled with hard granular material. I never heard of that, is that common? I always thought it was liquid or mucousy? |

Phantom Queen Morrigan Donating Member | no, its not normal for the secretions to be hard. That means she's either infected or impacted. it may or may not be a problem next time you go back.
