| I couldn't do it. I'd have to leave it to the groomer. Do all types of dogs need their anal glands cleaned, or is it a Yorkie thing?

| I have seen "scootin' " but I've never "expressed" anything! Maybe I should be. Everything seems to be coming out alright, but how exactly is it done? Just for future reference. |

| Is this something that should always be done or are you just opening the flood gates if you do it once? I would appreciate it if some can tell me the whole anal glands thing. |

| I've read that it's uncommon for a large breed dog to have this problem and we've never had this problem with any of our large dogs. It seems to be a small breed problem. I've also read that a higher fiber diet that results in firmer stool can help alleviate the problem because of the pressure when relieving themselves. So far we haven't had a problem with Bella but she's only 9 month old.

| No, anal glands should not be regularly expressed (although most groomers include it in their services). A dog will naturally express their anal glands on their own when they poop. You should only have the anal glands expressed if there is a problem with them
